Barbara McCullough
Barbara McCullough (born 1945) is a director, production manager and visual effects artist whose directorial works are associated with the Los Angeles School of Black independent filmmaking. She is best known for ''Water Ritual #1: An Urban Rite of Purification'' (1979), ''Shopping Bag Spirits and Freeway Fetishes: Reflections on Ritual Space'' (1980), ''Fragments'' (1980), and ''World Saxophone Quartet'' (1980). Early life and education Born in New Orleans, McCullough moved to Los Angeles when she was 11 years old. Her father was a musician and because he was a blind veteran she had scholarship opportunities which allowed her to attend private school. She attended Bishop Conaty Memorial High School and after taking courses at Cal State L.A. and L.A. Community College, got into UCLA through an undergraduate affirmative action program. ''Made in Heaven'' is a 1987 fantasy-comedy film directed by Alan Rudolph, script from Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon, and produced by Lorimar Productions. The film stars Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis and has cameos by Tom Petty, Ric Ocasek, Ellen Barkin and Neil Young. Emmett, a chain-smoking male angel, was played by Debra Winger (Hutton's then wife), but the character was only credited as being played by "Himself." ''Toys'' is a 1992 American fantasy comedy film directed by Barry Levinson, co-written by Levinson and Valerie Curtin, and starring Robin Williams, Michael Gambon, Joan Cusack, Robin Wright, LL Cool J, and Jamie Foxx in his feature film debut. ''Color of Night'' is a 1994 American erotic mystery thriller film produced by Cinergi Pictures and released in the United States by Buena Vista Pictures (through its Hollywood Pictures label). ''The Vampire Chronicles'' is a series of gothic vampire novels and a media franchise, created by American writer Anne Rice, that revolves around the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman turned into a vampire in the 18th century. ''When Nature Calls'' is a 1985 spoof comedy written and directed by Charles Kaufman and starring Academy Award nominee David Strathairn in an early performance. The film was distributed by Charles Kaufman's brother, Lloyd Kaufman, of Troma Entertainment (sister Susan Kaufman worked as an art director and their father Stanley appeared as an actor in the film). The film is packed with visual gags, non sequiturs, fake previews for non-existent movies, and, one of the film's more notable sequences, an obscene stop-motion montage involving food products. Senga Nengudi
Senga Nengudi (née Sue Irons; born September 18, 1943) is an African Americans, African-American visual artist and curator. She is best known for her abstract sculptures that combine found objects and choreographed performance. She is part of a group of African-American avant-garde artists working in New York City and Los Angeles, from the 1960s and onward. Nengudi was named the 2023 Nasher Sculpture Center#Nasher_Prize, Nasher Prize Laureate for her contribution to the discipline of sculpture. Jonas Mekas
Jonas Mekas (; December 24, 1922 – January 23, 2019) was a Lithuanian-American filmmaker, poet, and artist who has been called "the godfather of American avant-garde cinema". Mekas' work has been exhibited in museums and at festivals worldwide. Mekas was active in New York City, where he co-founded Anthology Film Archives, The Film-Makers’ Cooperative, and the journal '' Film Culture''. He was also the first film critic for ''The Village Voice''.
