Baraut (Assembly Constituency)
Baraut is one of the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is a part of the Bagpat district and one of the five assembly constituencies in the Baghpat Lok Sabha constituency. First election in this assembly constituency was held in 1952 after the "DPACO (1951)" (delimitation order 1951) was passed in 1951. After the 1969 elections, the constituency was dissolved. In 2008, when the "Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008" was passed, the constituency was constituted again and elections were held in 2012. Baraut is a city and municipal board in Bagpat district, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Name According to Paul Whalley, the name ''Baṛaut'' is derived from ''baṛ'', one of the Hindi-Urdu names for the banyan tree, plus the Sanskrit possessive suffix -vat' (which has often been shortened to ''-aut'' in modern place names), so the name originally meant "having banyan trees". Bagpat Lok Sabha Constituency
Baghpat, historically known as Vyaghraprastha, is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Bagpat district, which was established in 1997. It is part of the National Capital Region, surrounding New Delhi. Etymology The original name of the city was ''Vyaghraprastha'' (Sanskrit: व्याघ्रप्रस्थ, meaning ''tiger city'') because of the large number of tigers in that area.
