Bantigue Island
Bantigue Island, also known as Bantigui Island, is a small uninhabited island in the Islas de Gigantes archipelago in northeastern Iloilo, Philippines. It is one of fourteen islands under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Carles. The island is known for its long sandbar and is part of the Islas de Gigantes island-hopping tours. Location and geography Bantigue Island is located east of Panay Island in the Visayan Sea and southeast of Gigantes Sur. Islas De Gigantes
Islas de Gigantes (Spanish language in the Philippines, Spanish: Gigantes Islands lit: Giant Islands) (variously Islas Gigantes, Higantes group, or Gigantes group) is an island chain within the larger Western Visayas archipelago in the Visayan Sea. It is part of the municipality of Carles, Iloilo, Carles in the northernmost part of Iloilo, Iloilo province, Philippines. The Gigantes islands consist of about ten islands; the two largest are Gigantes Norte (North Gigantes) and Gigantes Sur (South Gigantes). Carles, officially the Municipality of Carles (, ), is a municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 72,637 people. Located on Panay Island, it is known for its rich fishing grounds. It is also known for popular tourist attractions such as the Islas de Gigantes, Sicogon Island and Cabugao Island. History Settlers first arrived circa 1846 and cleared an area at Punta Bulakawe, north of the current poblacion. Following an influx of settlers from Aklan and Antique, the settlement fell under Pueblo de Pilar, Capiz. About 10 years later, the settlement was transferred to the lowland and renamed to Badiang.
