Bankə (also, Bank, Banka, Bankov, Imeni Kirova and Rybokombinat Imeni Kirova) is a village and the most populous municipality, except for the capital Neftçala, in the Neftchala Rayon of Azerbaijan. Neftchala Rayon
Neftchala District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the southeast of the country and belongs to the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Salyan, Lankaran, and Masally. Its capital and largest city is Neftchala. As of 2020, the district had a population of 88,900. History The Neftchala District was formed as a district in the composition of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic on February 11, 1940. Until this time, it was located in the area of modern Salyan District, and during that year it became part of the Khilly region, organized on January 24, 1939. As Neftchala was an exceptionally industrial region, it was liquidated in December 1959 and unified with the Salyan region. Neftchala () is a city and the capital of the Neftchala District of Azerbaijan. Etymology The origin of the city name is Persian ("naft" meaning oil or petroleum) and Azerbaijani ("çala" meaning trench), meaning oil trench. History Throughout its history, Neftçala has suffered from floods because of its proximity to the river and most of the town's relatively low elevation. An ocean bank, sometimes referred to as a fishing bank or simply bank, is a part of the seabed that is shallow compared to its surrounding area, such as a shoal or the top of an underwater hill. Somewhat like continental slopes, ocean bank slopes can upwell as tidal and other flows intercept them, sometimes resulting in nutrient-rich currents. Because of this, some large banks, such as Dogger Bank and the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, are among the richest fishing grounds in the world.
