Bangalore Central Prison
Central Prison, Bengaluru (also called Bengaluru Central Jail and Parappana Agrahara Central Prison) is the largest prison in the Indian state of Karnataka. Established in 1997, it became the central prison of Bengaluru in 2000 when the old jail, which has since been converted to Freedom Park, Bangalore, Freedom Park, was shut for renovation. As of July 2023, the prison is spread over 40 acres and is the most overcrowded prison in Karnataka with more than 5,000 inmates despite its capacity being only 2,200. Awards The Central Prison was adjudged as the best prison at the 6th All India Prison Duty Meet in Prison Hygiene Competition in September 2022 in which all the states and Union Territories participated at Ahmedabad. The Prison was also awarded 'four star' rating by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in June 2021 for hygiene and upkeep of the premises. Freedom Park, Bangalore
Freedom Park is located in the Central Business District of the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. It was formerly the Central Jail. It was opened to the public in November 2008. A part of it has been allotted for protests. When a state of emergency was proclaimed in India in 1975, several opposition leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Murder Of Renukaswamy
Renukaswamy (1991 – 8 June 2024) was a resident of Chitradurga who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by men working with or for Kannada actor Darshan after allegedly sending lewd messages to Darshan's long-time partner, Pavithra Gowda. Renukaswamy was a habitual offender who sent obscene messages to several women. The criminal case is still being investigated. Victim background Renukaswamy was the only son of Kashinatha Shivanagowdara and Rathnaprabha. As the sole breadwinner of his family, he married in 2023. At the time of his murder, his wife was pregnant with their first child. Renukaswamy worked at a pharmacy store in Chitradurga, from where he was kidnapped and subsequently murdered in Bangalore. 2020 Bengaluru Drug Raids
On 10 August 2020, members of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) made simultaneous drug raids in Mumbai and Bengaluru relating to an alleged international MDMA (ecstasy) drugs racket. Based on evidence collected during the raids, the NCB made arrests of three other individuals on 21 August. Police said they had seized 2.2 lakh cash and 145 MDMA pills. According to police, one of the accused had a diary allegedly containing the names of 15 celebrities: including reality television personalities, musicians, actors in Kannada cinema and models, who the accused claimed were regular customers. The police claimed these accused were selling their products to affluent sections of Bangalore society. Other searches were made at properties allegedly belonging to major Kannada film stars.
