Banff RFC is a rugby union club based in Banff, Scotland. The Men's team currently plays in . History It was founded in 1978. One of the founders was ex-Highland RFC player George Webster. The ''Aberdeen Press and Journal'' of 21 March 1978 reported: Another new north-east rugby club, as yet unnamed, has been formed in Banff. At a meeting to constitute the club, officials appointed were: president George Webster, treasurer Keith Newton and secretary Rob McGown. Mr Webster, a teacher at Banff Academy, said yesterday: "We hope to play our first match on April 1st. In the meantime we are holding training sessions in the Duff House grounds on Tuesdays at 6.30pm and Sundays at 2.30pm." Various names have been put forward for the club including Deveron but the favourite is simply Banff rugby club. The question of colours is also being considered. Banff, Aberdeenshire
Banff ( gd, Banbh) is a town in the Banff and Buchan area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is situated on Banff Bay and faces the town of Macduff across the estuary of the River Deveron. It is a former royal burgh, and is the county town of the historic county of Banffshire. Etymology The origin of the name is not certain. While it may be derived from the Scottish Gaelic ''banbh'' meaning "piglet", a more likely origin is the name being a contraction of ''Bean-naomh'', Gaelic for "holy woman", as this would tie in with the burgh's coat of arms which features the Virgin Mary. William J. Watson writes: "It is true that Banff is Banb in the '' Book of Deer'' and Banbh in modern Gaelic—one syllable. On the other hand, banbh, a suckling pig, is not appropriate—one might say it is impossible—as the name of a place or district." The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. In total, the collection consists of 660,000 bound volumes and 370,000 reels of microfilm containing tens of millions of newspapers with 52,000 titles on 45 km of shelves. Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors are a professional rugby union side from Scotland. The team plays in the United Rugby Championship league and in the European Professional Club Rugby tournaments. In the 2014–15 season they won the Pro12 title and became the first Scottish team to win a major trophy in rugby union's professional era. The side is known for its fast, dynamic and attacking style of play, using offloads and quick rucks. Defensively the club prides itself on its 'Fortress Scotstoun' where the club play at home.
