Banda Calypso (album)
''Volume 1'' is the debut album of the band of Pará Banda Calypso. The album was produced by guitarist and husband of singer Joelma, Chimbinha, and released in mid-June 1999 by Calypso Productions. Having reached more than five hundred thousand copies in Pará, Banda Calypso was invited to perform the song "Vendaval" in Programa Carlos Santos (being the first live performance of the band). Development At the very beginning with good reputation as a producer and several contacts, Chimbinha had trouble getting sponsorship for the release of the first album of the band, there were those who believed in the band's work. Finally, they managed a partnership that allowed a limited 1000 disc sales, which were sold out within a week. With this result, there were contracts for concerts and the band was expanding by Pará. Banda Calypso
Banda Calypso was a Brazilian brega pop band, with influences of regional rhythms of the state of Pará. The band was formed in Belém, the state capital, in 1999 by singer/dancer Joelma da Silva Mendes and guitarist/producer Cledivan Almeida Farias, better known as Mestre Ximbinha. Early exposure of their work was restricted to only the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. The band now enjoys success throughout Brazil and has begun to establish its career abroad with tours to the United States, Europe and Angola. Despite initial resistance by music distributors because of its genre and origins, the band became a leader in CD and DVD sales in the 2000s, with approximately 15 million albums and over 5 million DVDs distributed in Brazil, making it one of the record-breaking bands of the country in sales. Joelma Mendes
Joelma da Silva Mendes, best known only as Joelma (born June 22, 1974) is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and dancer. The singer since the age of 19, Joelma began her career in 1994, and in 1998 she met and married the musician and producer, Ximbinha, forming with him the Banda Calypso in June 1999. Together, achieved fame and success, and became sales record holders in albums in Brazil, launching thirteen studio albums, ten live albums and eight video albums which generated singles successes. Dançando Calypso
"Dançando" Is a song by the Brazilian recording artist Ivete Sangalo from her seventh studio album ''Real Fantasia''. The song, composed by Dan Kambaiah and Davi Salles, was released as second single of the album on 16 January 2013. A second version, featured the Colombian singer Shakira, was released on 30 January 2013. However, the duet does not integrate the album in the physical version, because the authorization for the commercialization of the recording did not arrive in a timely manner for the insertion of the duet in the physical edition of the disc. Once authorized, the recording was used by Universal Music as "bonus track" in the digital version of the album. Brega Pop
Calypso, Brega Calypso or just Brega-pop, is a Brazilian musical genre that emerged in the Brazilian city of Belém (state of Pará), by mixing elements of Pará's regional genres such as '' lambada, carimbó'', ''guitarrada'', ''siriá'', with international music from Caribbean countries, such as calypso, ska, reggae. It developed in the 1990s at concerts and dances in nightclubs on the outskirts of town and through street vendors promoting the production of small local/independent musicians.
