''Bananimals'' (sometimes written ''Ban Animals'') is an album recorded by the band the Frogs. It was released in 1999 on Four Alarm Records. It is the third in a series of Frogs albums that contain improvised home recordings. The album continues the themes of homosexual and sadistic eroticism, but also briefly touches on the music scene of the early 1990s. The Frogs (band)
The Frogs are an alternative rock band founded in 1980, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by brothers Jimmy and Dennis Flemion. The brothers mainly wrote and performed short, catchy pop songs, but they are also known for their improvised home recordings that are delivered in a comedic style, and often include controversial issues such as race, religion, and sexuality (notably homoeroticism). A history of strife has hindered the band, although a devoted fan base that includes many well-known musicians has supported the group. ''Racially Yours'' is an album by the band the Frogs, released in 2000. The album was originally presented to Homestead Records in the early '90s, but they refused to release it due to its controversial subject matter. At this point the album only consisted of the first 12 songs. After much delay, it was released in 2000 on Four Alarm Records with an additional 13 tracks, and a tongue-in-cheek sticker proclaiming it "the most controversial album of all time." Unlike the sexually charged and comedic material on '' It's Only Right and Natural'' and '' My Daughter the Broad'', ''Racially Yours'' focuses on subjects such as American racism, genocide and patriotism. The songs are sung from the point of view of both African Americans and white Americans. Wesley Willis
Wesley Lawrence Willis (May 31, 1963 – August 21, 2003) was an American musician and visual artist. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1989, Willis began a career as an underground singer-songwriter in the outsider music tradition. Willis' songs are typically partially spoken in an MC style, and partially sung in a nasal and out-of-tune manner reminiscent of punk rock vocals. They feature bizarre, humorous and sometimes obscene or absurd lyrics sung over backing created by using the auto accompaniment feature on his Technics KN keyboard. His songs cover a wide variety of topics, with mental illness and consumerism being the most prominent themes. He is best known for songs such as "Rock N Roll McDonald's" as well as a series of songs where he would directly insult his demons. Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1981. Sebadoh () is an American indie rock band formed in 1986 in Northampton, Massachusetts, by Eric Gaffney and Lou Barlow, with multi-instrumentalist Jason Loewenstein completing the line-up in 1989. Barlow co-created Sebadoh as an outlet for his songwriting when J. Mascis gradually took over creative control of Dinosaur Jr., in which Barlow plays bass guitar. Along with such bands as Pavement (band), Pavement, Beat Happening and Guided by Voices, Sebadoh helped pioneer a lo-fi music, lo-fi style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques that employed Multitrack recording, four-track cassette tape machines. Pavement is an American indie rock band that formed in Stockton, California, in 1989. For most of their career, the group consisted of Stephen Malkmus (vocals and guitar), Scott Kannberg (guitar and vocals), Mark Ibold (bass), Steve West (drums), and Bob Nastanovich (percussion, synthesizers and vocals). Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate stylistic choice.
