Banana Ridge (film)
''Banana Ridge'' is a 1942 British comedy film directed by Walter C. Mycroft and starring Robertson Hare, Alfred Drayton and Isabel Jeans. The film is based on a 1938 stage play of the same name by Ben Travers. It was made at Welwyn Studios. Michael Denison accompanied his wife Dulcie Gray for her screen test for the film, which led some years later to his casting in his breakthrough role in '' My Brother Jonathan''.Warren p.91 The film was a success at the box office. Hare and Drayton appeared together in another comedy '' Women Aren't Angels'' the following year. Two colleagues come to worry that a mysterious young man may be their son from liaisons with the same woman during the First World War. They are persuaded to give him a job at "Banana Ridge" one of the company's rubber plantations in the Malay States. My Brother Jonathan
''My Brother Jonathan'' is a 1948 British drama film directed by Harold French and starring Michael Denison, Dulcie Gray, Ronald Howard and Beatrice Campbell. It is adapted from the 1928 novel of the same name by Francis Brett Young, later turned into a television series of the same title. The film was part of an attempt to relaunch major production by ABPC following the Second World War. Plot The story revolves around the life of Jonathan Dakers, a small-town doctor. He is training to be a surgeon when his father dies. Due to the resulting financial problems, he cannot continue his training. The story goes briefly into flashback: to 1900. Jonathan and his brother go to a new private school. As soon as they arrive they join a game of cricket, where a young girl Edith (Edie) keeps the score. Lloyd Mawson Pearson (13 December 1897 – 2 June 1966) was an English actor, who appeared mostly in character roles on stage and screen. He created the roles of Rat in ''Toad of Toad Hall'' in 1929 and Alderman Helliwell in the West End theatre, West End production of J. B. Walter Sydney Vinnicombe (26 September 1888 – 27 October 1970), known as Wally Patch, was an English actor and comedian. He worked in film, television and theatre. Biography Vinnicombe was born in Willesden, Middlesex and began working on the music hall stages in 1912 and at regular theatres in 1938 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. His first film appearance was in 1928, and went on to appear in 213 other films. On stage he enjoyed success in the 1950 play ''Reluctant Heroes'', the first of the Whitehall farces. Mignon O'Doherty
Mignon O'Doherty (1890 – 1961) was an Australian actress who worked in British theatre, film and television. O'Doherty was born in Brisbane, the daughter of Dr. Edward O’Doherty and Isabel Maud French. She was the granddaughter of Young Irelander Dr. Kevin Izod O’Doherty and his wife, the Irish revolutionary poet Mary Eva Kelly. She was also the granddaughter of General Sir George French, first commissioner of Canada’s Northwest Mounted Police. O'Doherty married actor Tom Nesbitt (1890-1927), the brother of actress Cathleen Nesbitt; they had two children. O'Doherty made her London stage debut in 1913. John Stuart (John Alfred Louden Croall; 18 July 1898 – 17 October 1979) was a Scottish people, Scottish actor, and was a very popular leading man in British silent films in the 1920s. He successfully made the transition to talking pictures in the 1930s and his film career went on to span almost six decades. Adele Dixon
Adele Dixon (born Adelaide Helena Dixon; 3 June 1908 – 11 April 1992) was an English actress and singer. She sang at the start of regular broadcasts of the BBC Television Service on 2 November 1936. After an early start as a child actress, and training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she became a member of the Old Vic, from 1928 to 1930, appearing in a wide range of roles, predominantly in Shakespeare's plays, but also those of Sheridan, Molière and Shaw. Her performance in her first singing role so impressed the composer Richard Addinsell, that he secured her the leading role in the West End adaptation of Priestley's ''The Good Companions'' in 1931. Malay States
The monarchies of Malaysia exist in each of the nine Malay states under the constitutional monarchy system as practised in Malaysia.
