Baltimore Nighthawks
The Baltimore Nighthawks are a women's American football team in the Women's Football Alliance. The Nighthawks played their inaugural game in Brooklandville at Martin D. Tullai Field (adjacent to St. Paul's School). The Nighthawks played the remainder of their home season at the Baltimore Lutheran School in Towson. The Baltimore Nighthawks support several charitable organizations including Healthcare for the Homeless, Special Olympics MD through the annual Polar Bear Plunge, various breast cancer groups, and the Central MD Girl Scouts. On March 21, 2009, the Nighthawks made women's football history when they hosted the first Pink Ribbon Bowl. The goal was to raise awareness about breast cancer and introduce professional women's tackle football to a broader audience. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Susan G. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. The Pittsburgh Passion is a women's American football team based in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The franchise was formed in March 2002 and is currently owned by Teresa Conn, Anthony Misitano, and the estate of Franco Harris. The team is a part of the Women's Football Alliance, with home games played at West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pennsylvania. History In 2003, the Passion played its home games at Belle Vernon Area High School. The team finished its inaugural season with a 2–6 record. The average attendance at each of their four home games that season was between 2,500 and 3,000 fans. The Carolina Phoenix is a football team in the Women's Football Alliance (WFA) based in the Triad of North Carolina. Home games are played at Simeon Stadium in High Point, North Carolina. After finishing 5–1 in their 2007 debut season as an X-Team, the Phoenix began full-time play in 2008 as a member of Tier II. The success continued there, as the Phoenix finished 7–1, winning the Tier II South Atlantic division title before losing to the eventual Tier II champion Montreal Blitz in the semifinal round of the playoffs. New York Nemesis
The New York Nemesis were a women's tackle football team playing out of the Capital District of New York. It was a member of the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), a league with over 30 teams across the United States. The Nemesis played in the Northern Conference, with home games on the campus of Schenectady High School in Schenectady. The team was owned by ten year women's football veteran Carley Pesente, who is also a ranked professional boxer. She put together a strong management team led by GM Diane Wilkinson, and Alana Graziano Assistant GM and Team Delegate, both veterans to the game of football. Philadelphia Firebirds (IWFL)
The Philadelphia Firebirds are a women's football team in the Independent Women's Football League based in Philadelphia. They are in the Eastern Conference, North Atlantic Division with the Boston Militia, New York Nemesis, and New York Sharks. The team was formerly known as the Philadelphia Phoenix and formerly played in the National Women's Football Association. Upon moving to the IWFL, they changed their name so as to avoid confusion with their fellow IWFL franchise, the Carolina Phoenix. Philadelphia's first women's tackle football team was founded in 2001 as the Philadelphia Liberty Belles. The Belles won the inaugural NWFL Championship that year. In 2002, the Belles lost in the semi-final playoff round. Heading into the 2003 season, the team split and the Philadelphia Phoenix was formed. Women's Football Alliance
The Women's Football Alliance (WFA) is a professional full-contact Women's American football tackle minor league that began play in 2009. It is the largest 11-on-11 football league for women in the world, and the longest running active women's football league in the U.S. Since 2016, the league has operated with three competitive levels: Pro, Division 2 and Division 3. The league is owned and operated by Jeff King and Lisa Gibbons King of Exeter, California. Lisa King is also a wide receiver for the WFA's, Los Angeles Warriors.
