The 1998 Baltic Cup football competition was the 18th season of the Baltic Cup. It did not take place, as before, at one single venue. The annual tournament was split up into three separate matches, starting with Latvia against Lithuania on 21 April 1998. Marians Pahars
Marians Pahars (born 5 August 1976) is a Latvian professional football manager and a former player. As a player, he spent the majority of his career operating as a striker for English club Southampton, where he played in the Premier League and the Championship, the latter of which he played during his final season for the club. Furthermore, he had two spells at Skonto in the Latvian Higher League. He also made 75 appearances for the Latvia national team, scoring 15 goals over an eleven-year period. Having retired from football, Pahars entered a career in coaching, starting as assistant at Skonto, which resulted in his first appointment as a manager. He went on to manage Latvia at the under-21 and senior level, before returning to club management with Jelgava. Sportland Arena
Sportland Arena is an association football stadium in Tallinn, Estonia. Located next to Estonia's largest stadium A. Le Coq Arena, it is part of the Lilleküla Football Complex. The stadium is named after the sporting goods retail company ''Sportland''. Sportland Arena is used as a home ground by TJK Legion. Due to its artificial turf surface and under-soil heating, the stadium also serves as the home ground for FC Flora, FCI Levadia and Tallinna Kalev in the winter and early spring months. History First opened in 2003, the stadium underwent renovation for the 2018 season, for which a 1,198-seat grandstand was constructed on the south side of the ground. The Latvian Football Federation ( ; LFF ) is the governing body of football in Latvia with its headquarters located in the Rimi Sports Centre in Riga. Its activities include the organizing of the Latvian football championship ( Optibet Virslīga), the Latvian First League, the Latvian Second League, as well as lower league championships and the Latvian Football Cup. Viljandi (, , , , ) is a Populated places in Estonia, town and Municipalities of Estonia, municipality in southern Estonia with a population of 17,255 in 2024. It is the capital of Viljandi County and is geographically located between two major Estonian cities, Pärnu and Tartu. Viljandi linnastaadion is a multi-purpose stadium in Viljandi, Estonia. Opened in 1929 and located by Lake Viljandi, it is the home ground of Viljandi JK Tulevik. The stadium has 1,068 seats, of which 386 are under the roof. History The construction of the stadium started in 1928, when the mayor of Viljandi was August Maramaa. The sports ground was officially opened in June 1929, although the construction was not fully finished and due to a downturn in economy, the works were then halted for several years. The stadium was renovated in 1960 and in 1989. Extensive renovation works began at Viljandi linnastaadion in May 2008 and the stadium was reopened on 16 June 2009, reaching its current look. Lithuanian Football Federation
The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF; ) is the governing body of football in Lithuania. The Federation is responsible for football development in the country and for the national teams, including the Lithuania national football team. It is based in Vilnius. LFF became a member of FIFA in 1923, but following Lithuania's annexation by the Soviet Union it was disbanded. It became a member again in 1992 after Lithuania regained its independence.
