Baltic Bees Jet Team
The Baltic Bees Jet Team is a civilian aerobatic display team based in Jūrmala Airport (EVJA), Latvia, 60km west of the capital, Riga. The team consists of six Czechoslovak Aero L-39 Albatros jets. The team flies a display lasting around 20 minutes that includes formation flying, opposition passes, solo routines, and synchronized manoeuvres. They fly in shows in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, as well as in China. During the COVID-19 pandemic, during an air show in China, some of the aircraft were left stranded there. Tukums
Tukums (; ; ) is a town in Latvia and serves as the administrative center of Tukums Municipality. It is located in the eastern part of the historical region of Courland, and with more than 16,000 inhabitants Tukums is the 13th largest settlement in Latvia. It is also an important railroad junction, connecting the town with Riga, Jelgava and Ventspils. It has two railway stations — Tukums I and Tukums II. History The historical center of Tukums developed between trade routes leading from the mouth of the Daugava River to Prussia. Aero L-39 Albatros
The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer designed and produced by Aero Vodochody in the Czech Republic. In addition to performing basic and advanced pilot training, it has also flown combat missions in a light-attack role. Despite its manufacturing origin in the Warsaw Pact, the L-39 never received a NATO reporting name. The L-39 Albatros was designed during the 1960s as a successor to the Aero L-29 Delfín, an early jet-powered principal training aircraft. Performing its maiden flight on 4 November 1968, it became the first trainer aircraft in the world to be equipped with a turbofan powerplant. Quantity production of the L-39 Albatros proceeded in 1971; one year later, it was formally recognized by the majority of the Warsaw Pact countries as their preferred primary trainer. Aerobatics
Aerobatics is the practice of flying maneuvers involving aircraft attitudes that are not used in conventional passenger-carrying flights. The term is a portmanteau of "aeroplane" and "acrobatics". Aerobatics are performed in aeroplanes and gliders for training, recreation, entertainment, and sport. Additionally, some helicopters, such as the MBB Bo 105, are capable of limited aerobatic manoeuvres. Jūrmala Airport
Jūrmala Airport is an airport located in Smārde Parish, Tukums Municipality, in the Courland region of Latvia, southeast of Tukums. All of the airport's technical infrastructure, runway and buildings are what was left of the former Soviet military Tukums air base, which was a spartan military airfield with a single long ramp and revetted area. The base was completely abandoned, but in 2010 the conversion of the base to a civil airport with passenger terminals started.
