Ballymoney (District Electoral Area)
Ballymoney is one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) in Causeway Coast and Glens, Northern Ireland. The district elects seven members to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and contains the wards of Ballymoney East, Ballymoney North, Ballymoney South, Clogh Mills, Dunloy, Rasharkin and Route. ARK, accessed 8 July 2023 Ballymoney forms part of the North Antrim constituencies for the North Antrim (Assembly constituency), Northern Ireland Assembly and North Antrim (UK Parliament constituency), UK Parliament. Causeway Coast And Glens Borough Council
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is a local authority in Northern Ireland that was established on 1 April 2015. It covers most of the northern coast of Northern Ireland and replaced Ballymoney Borough Council, Coleraine Borough Council, Limavady Borough Council and Moyle District Council. The area covered by the council has a population of 140,877 residents as at the 2011 census. The first elections to the authority were on 22 May 2014 and it acted as a shadow authority, prior to the creation of the Causeway Coast and Glens district on 1 April 2015. There is a Unionist majority on the council. Ballymoney Area C was one of the three district electoral areas in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland which existed from 1973 to 1985. Cecil Cousley
Cecil Cousley MBE (February 1932 – 12 October 2020) was a politician in Northern Ireland. Cousley was a farmer living near Ballymoney, and an elder at Drumreagh Presbyterian Church. Cousley was elected to Ballymoney Borough Council in 1981 for the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He was also elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly, 1982 in North Antrim. He held his council seat at each election until he retired in 2015, regularly placing top in the poll. He served as Mayor of Ballymoney in 1988 – 89, 94 – 95 and 2004 – 05, and as Deputy Mayor in 1991 – 92, 2002–03 and 2006 – 07. Philip McGuigan
Philip McGuigan (born 1973) is a Northern Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for North Antrim since 2016, having previously served from 2003 to 2007. He is a former member of Ballymoney Borough Council. He was raised in Swatragh, County Londonderry. McGuigan was elected to the Assembly in 2003 representing North Antrim. He was elected to the Ballymoney Council in 2001, aged 27, with the highest vote of any of the sixteen elected council and then elected to the Causeway Coast and Glens Council in 2013.
