Ballylinan GAA
Ballylinan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club in Ballylinan, County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1926 and has colours of green and gold. Ballylinan Gaelic Athletic Association Club has been a central part of village life since it was founded in 1926. The club is a senior club which provides Gaelic football to all age groups from under six to adult. The club also formerly competed in the Laois Junior Hurling Championship. Ballylinan has won the Laois Intermediate Football Championship title five times and in 1987 and 2017 reached the Laois Senior Football Championship final, losing to Portlaoise both times. The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. Niall Carew
Niall Carew (born 1974) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former Gaelic footballer and hurler. He has been manager of the Carlow county team since 2020. Carew previously managed Waterford and Sligo. Career Born in Staplestown, County Kildare, Carew played Gaelic football for the St Kevin's club and hurling for Coill Dubh. In retirement from playing Carew became involved in team management and coaching. At inter-county level he served as a selector with the senior Kildare county team, before later managing the Waterford and Sligo senior teams. Mick Lillis
Mick Lillis is a Gaelic games coach and manager and former player. He played for the Laois county football team, later managing them and has also been involved with numerous clubs in several counties. As well as managing winning senior championship teams in Laois with Portlaoise, he also guided St Laurence's in Kildare and Palatine in Carlow to county titles. Biography Lillis is a native of Cooraclare, County Clare, but played most of his club football career with Portlaoise and briefly played with the Laois senior football team. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Portlaoise GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) affiliated hurling, Gaelic football and camogie club based in Portlaoise, the county town of Laois in Ireland. The Laois Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888.
