Ballston Lake
Ballston Lake is a lake that is located in the hamlet of Ballston Lake, New York in the town of Ballston. Fish species present in the lake include northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, yellow perch, carp, pumpkinseed sunfish, walleye, bluegill and brown bullhead. The lake is meromictic, meaning its deeper waters never mix with the surface layer. In 2021 both the cartop boat launch on Outlet Road the private one located at Finnigan's On The Lake Restaurant were closed, leaving no public boating access to the lake. In February 2022, the public fishing pier on the north end of the lake was closed due to damage sustained by ice over the winter. Ballston is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 11,831 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from an early settler, Eliphalet Ball, a Presbyterian minister who located there from Westchester County, New York in 1770. The Town of Ballston is in the southern part of the County and is north of Schenectady. History The region was first settled around 1763. In 1775, the area became a District in Albany County. In 1780, Loyalist raiders attacked the northern part of the town and took several prisoners of war to Canada. The area was originally called "Ball's Town" and "Ballton." The town was formed in 1785 while still in Albany County. The original owners of the town were the Mcdonald brothers. Rev. Malta is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The town is in the central part of the county and is south of Saratoga Springs. The population was 17,130 as of the 2020 census. Anthony Kill
The Anthony Kill, also called Tenandeho Creek, is a stream ("kill") in Saratoga County, New York approximately long. Its source is the east end of Round Lake, and it flows east into the Hudson River in Mechanicville. It drains an area of approximately . The Native name "Ta-nen-da-ho-wa" has been translated "great point". In English the name was formerly "Anthony's Kill", or the "St. Anthony Kill," but there seems to be no record of its origin. Rensselaer And Saratoga Railroad
The Rensselaer and Saratoga Railroad was chartered on April 14, 1832. It completed between Troy and Ballston Spa on March 19, 1836. The railroad was largely conceived and built by businessmen of Troy in response to Albany's construction of the Mohawk and Hudson Railroad and the extension to Saratoga called the Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad. Despite its name, the railroad only reached to Ballston Spa and relied on the Saratoga and Schenectady to give it access to Saratoga Springs, New York. When an agreement was not forthcoming, investors seized an opportunity to buy up Saratoga and Schenectady stock and take control of the railroad. Later acquisitions included trackage to Whitehall, New York and a line of steamers that plied Lake Champlain, allowing tourists to travel from Troy to Canada entirely by steam conveyance for the first time. Round Lake is a village in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,245 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from a circular lake adjacent to the village. In 1975, the Round Lake Historic District, which encompasses the village, was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Village of Round Lake is in the Town of Malta. History The village began in 1867 as a summer camp meeting locale for groups of Methodists. Zim Smith Trail
The Zim Smith Trail is the main multi-use trail of a network of trails in Saratoga County, New York. Extending twelve miles, it connects the cities and towns of Mechanicville, Halfmoon, Clifton Park, Round Lake Village, Malta and Ballston Spa. The trail is the route of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, originally the Rensselaer & Saratoga Railroad which was completed in 1836. It is the only trail in New York state to be designated a national recreation trail by the U.S. Department of Interior and National Park Service. The trail starts at Oak Street in Ballston Spa and runs through Malta's Shenantaha Creek Park.
