Ballinderry
Ballinderry () is a small civil and ecclesiastical parish on both sides of the County Londonderry / County Tyrone border in Northern Ireland. It is a rural parish of about 350 houses and lies on the western shores of Lough Neagh. The parish contains two small villages: Ballylifford and Derrychrin, which are of relatively close proximity to Cookstown, Coalisland, Magherafelt and Dungannon. They are also very close to the settlements of Ardboe, Moortown, The Loup, and Ballyronan. Places of interest The Ballinderry River flows into Lough Neagh at Ballinderry. The river has formed the border between the two counties of Londonderry and Tyrone since the creation of the former. It is regarded by anglers as one of the best trout rivers in Ulster, and is also good for salmon. One variety of trout, known as dollaghan, is native to the Lough Neagh area. Enda Muldoon
Enda Muldoon (born 11 September 1977) is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team and has won an Ulster Senior Football Championship and two National League titles with the county, as well as Ulster Minor, Ulster Under 21 and All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championships. He also won an All Star Award for his performances in the 2004 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. From Ballinderry, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Muldoon announced his retirement from playing club football for Ballinderry Shamrocks on 13 November 2017. He was instrumental in helping Ballinderry win the 2002 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, and he has also won six Derry Championships and an Ulster Senior Club Football Championship with the club. James Conway (Gaelic Footballer)
James Conway (born 31 March 1981) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for the Derry county team, with whom he has won a National League title. He plays his club football for Ballinderry Shamrocks. He was part of the Ballinderry team that won the 2002 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, and he has also won four Derry Championships and an Ulster Senior Club Football Championship with the club. For club and county he plays in midfield. Kevin McGuckin
Kevin "Slith" McGuckin (born 21 February 1981) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for the Derry county team, with whom he has won a National League title. McGuckin was captain of the Derry team for 2007 and is currently the vice-captain. He is regarded as one of the best defenders in Ireland. McGuckin plays his club football for Ballinderry Shamrocks. He was part of the Ballinderry team that won the 2002 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, and he has also won four Derry Championships and an Ulster Senior Club Football Championship with the club. Conleith Gilligan
Conleith "Deets" Gilligan (born 17 December 1979) is a Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team, with whom he won two National League titles. Gilligan plays his club football for Ballinderry Shamrocks. He was instrumental in helping Ballinderry win the 2002 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, and he has also won four Derry Championships and an Ulster Senior Club Football Championship with the club. Gilligan usually plays as a playmaker in the forward line and his vision and ability to pick out pin-point passes is well renowned. Playing career Inter-county Gilligan was a late addition to the Derry panel that won the 2000 National League. Ballyronan
Ballyronan () is a village and townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, on the north western shore of Lough Neagh. The village is from Magherafelt and from Cookstown. It is situated within Mid-Ulster District. History The village was founded by Daniel Gaussen in 1788. He built a forge on the shore of Lough Neagh for manufacturing spades and soon afterwards erected stores. This led to the building of quays and the formation of a port, which greatly benefited the surrounding countryside. A large distillery was erected in 1824, and a brewery in 1830, by Messrs. Gaussen and Sons. Vessels of about 50 tons burden plied regularly between the village and Belfast, exporting wheat, fruit, spirits, ale, and freestone, and bringing back barley, timber, slate, iron, wine and groceries. Lough Neagh ( ) is a freshwater lake in Northern Ireland and is the largest lake in the island of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles. Ballylifford
Ballylifford () is a townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is within the civil parish of Ballinderry, on the western shores of Lough Neagh, and is part of Mid-Ulster District. Many of the houses in the area have been built along Ballinderry Bridge Road. A notable person from the parish is IRA Brigadier-Commandant Sean Larkin who fought on the anti-Treaty side in the Irish Civil War and was one of the those executed at Drumboe Castle on 14 March 1923 by firing squad, ordered by the Free State Government. Education The only school in the area, Ballylifford Primary School (formerly Ballylifford National School), is a Catholic primary school for children between the ages of four and 11. Moortown, County Tyrone
Moortown is a rural area in the north east of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It lies on the western shores of Lough Neagh, beside Ballinderry and Ardboe. It is relatively close to the towns of Cookstown, Magherafelt and Dungannon. It is in Mid Ulster District Council area. Places of interest include Kinturk Cultural Centre, Coyles Cottage, the Aerodrome, the Battery Harbour and the Ardboe High Cross. Dollaghan are a variety of brown trout (''Salmo trutta'') native to Lough Neagh, Northern Ireland, and many of its tributaries. They are a potamodromous migratory trout spending much of the year in the lough, returning to the rivers in autumn to spawn.
