Ballerina (1966 Film)
''Ballerina'' also known as ''The Copenhagen Ballet'' is a 1966 made-for-television produced by Walt Disney Productions, the film was directed by Norman Campbell and follows the story of a young girl Mette Sorensen (played by Mette Hønningen) who aspires to be a dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, against the wishes of her mother but with the support of her musician father and her mentor, the famous ballerina Kirsten Holm (played by Kirsten Simone). The film premiered on NBC on February 27, 1966 as part of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. Plot The story opens with Mette greeting Kirsten at the airport following the latter's return from a successful dance tour. Norman Campbell (director)
Norman Kenneth Campbell, (February 4, 1924 – April 12, 2004) was a Canadian composer, television producer, and television director best known for co-writing ''Anne of Green Gables - The Musical''. Born in Los Angeles, he joined CBC Vancouver as a radio producer in 1948. In 1952, he went to Toronto to produce the early CBC Television broadcasts. He produced and directed hundreds of television programs between the 1950s and 1990s, including a drama ''Ballerina'' (1966). He directed episodes of ''All in the Family'', ''The Mary Tyler Moore Show'' and '' One Day at a Time''. In 1978, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada "in recognition of the distinction he has brought to Canadian theatre through the operas, ballets, plays and musical comedies he has produced on stage and television for well over a quarter-century". Mette Hønningen
Inge Mette Hønningen (born 1944) is a classical Danish ballerina who danced in the Royal Danish Ballet until 1992. She starred in Norman Campbell's film '' Ballerina'' in 1966. A number of choreographers have created works specially for her, in particular Alvin Ailey who dedicated ''Witness'' to her in 1986. Kirsten Simone
Kirsten Simone (born 1 July 1934) is a former Danish ballerina. She studied at the Royal Danish Ballet School with Vera Volkova and joined the Royal Danish Ballet Company in 1952. She became their first soloist in 1966. She created roles in Flemming Flindt's ''The Three Musketeers'' (1966), Elsa-Marianne von Rosen's ''Don Juan'' (1967) and Harald Lander's ''Fête polonaise'' (1970). She was a guest artist with several companies including the American Ballet Theatre and London Festival Ballet. Since her retirement she has taught at the Royal Danish Ballet School. Astrid Villaume (3 November 1923 – 12 February 1995) was a Danish actress of stage and film best known for her Bodil Award-winning title role in the 1950 film '' Susanne''. Poul David Reichhardt (2 February 1913 – 31 October 1985) was a Danish actor, well known for his roles in Danish 1940s/1950s comedies. William Hillyard Anderson (October 12, 1911December 28, 1997) was an American producer best known for his work with The Walt Disney Company.
