Ballarat Imperial Football Club
The Ballarat Imperial Football Club was an Australian rules football club that competed in the Ballarat Football League (BFL). The club was one of the most successful teams in the league, winning 17 premierships before it was dissolved in 1955. History The club was formed in the mid-1870s as the "Galatea Football Club" before becoming known as "Ballarat Imperial" in 1878 with the first practice match taking place on Saturday 4th May 1878. In 1882, Ballarat Imperial FC and City FC agreed to merge clubs and become known as the Ballarat City Imperial FC and retain the colours of Ballarat Imperial FC. During an 1883 Victorian football season, 1883 match against , Ballarat Imperial captain John Williams Mills was struck in the abdomen, but played out the remainder of the match. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria (state), Victoria. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. History In 1880, a Ballarat and Western Districts Football Association was formed, but it appears no teams were entered or a draw was made up. Between 1883 and 1892, there was an unofficial Ballarat / Western Districts football competition, with local Ballarat papers recording a list of premierships teams during this period. Frank Finn (footballer)
Frank Albert Austin Finn (18 November 1911 – 9 May 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton and Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). In two years with Footscray in 1927 and 1938, Finn played three senior matches and kicked two goals. But the highlight of his time at the Western Oval came in the 1936 Reserves Grand Final, when Frank played on a wing and the Bulldogs beat the heavily favoured Melbourne. In 1938 he was on the move again, and crossed to Camberwell in the VFA. He became a stalwart in the centre for the Tricolours, and went on to play more than 100 games – although his football career was interrupted in 1942 when he enlisted for active service with the Australian Army in World War II. Ernest Edgar Stubbs (28 March 1883 – 13 September 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Horrie Bant
William Horace Bray "Horrie" Bant (22 September 1882 – 6 May 1957) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bant, who played mostly used as a centre half-back and fullback, started and ended his senior career in Western Australia. After originally playing for Ballarat Imperials, in early 1904 Bant moved to Western Australia and after playing in the Goldfields League for a few months was cleared to West Perth. He was a member of West Perth's 1905 premiership winning side. He joined St Kilda for the 1906 VFL season and from his debut played 39 consecutive games. This included St Kilda's first ever final in 1907, with Bant the vice-captain.
