Ballangen
Ballangen ( sme, Bálák) is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1925 until its dissolution in 2020. The municipality was part of the traditional district of Ofoten. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Ballangen. Other villages in the municipality included Bjørkåsen, Kjeldebotn, Kobbvika, and Skarstad. The municipality bordered Narvik Municipality to the east and Tysfjord Municipality to the south, and had a short border with Sweden to the southeast. Ballangen was situated on the southern shore of Ofotfjorden. Ballangen also included the long and narrow Efjorden, just south of the much larger Ofotfjorden. Its immediate surroundings were dominated by fjords, mountains, and forests. Ballangen relied on the nearby town of Narvik as its economic base. Ballangen (village)
or is a village in Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located at the western end of the Ballangen fjord, a small branch off the main Ofotfjorden. The European route E06 highway runs through the village. It is the main north-south route in Northern Norway. The village economy is centered around the government services for the municipality as well as some manufacturing industry. Just outside the village is Ballangen Museum, which presents the extensive mining activity that has been in Ballangen since the 17th century. Efjorden
or is a fjord in Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is an arm off of the main Ofotfjorden, stretching about to the south. The Efjord Bridges on the European route E06 highway cross the fjord heading east on the way to the town of Narvik. The Norwegian National Road 827 follows the western shore of the fjord from the E6 highway heading south to the Efjord Tunnel which leads towards the village of Kjøpsvik. Tysfjord ( smj, Divtasvuodna) is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1869 until its dissolution in 2020. The municipality was part of the traditional district of Ofoten. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Kjøpsvik. Other villages included Drag, Hundholmen, Korsnes, Musken, Rørvika, Skarberget, and Storå. Tysfjord had a very large population of Lule Sami people. The Árran Lule Sami Center was located in the village of Drag. With the Norwegian language and Lule Sami language both as official languages of the municipality, Tysfjord was the only municipality in Norway where speakers of Lule Sami should theoretically be able to speak that language with officials, although this has not come completely to fruition.
