Balla Moussa Keïta
Balla Moussa Keïta (1934 – March 6, 2001) was a Malian actor and comedian, and a West African cinema pioneer who was well known in the West (especially France). Born in the Ségou Region of Mali as a traditional prince of the Keita dynasty, he was originally a radio producer. He later turned to acting and acted in a number of movies by notable Mali directors like Cheick Oumar Sissoko, Souleymane Cissé (film director), Souleymane Cissé and Abdoulaye Ascofaré. Among his critically acclaimed roles are those of the tribal king ''Rouma Boll'' in ''Yeelen'' and as Mambi in ''Guimba, un tyrant, une époque''. He received the Best Male Interpretation award at the FESPACO for his role in the Guinean film ''Séré, le témoin''. Adama Drabo (1948 - July 15, 2009) was a Malian filmmaker and playwright. Biography Drabo was in the Malian capital of Bamako, Mali, where he showed an interest in film since his childhood. For ten years, he was a schoolteacher in a Malian village, and in his spare time he painted and wrote plays. His career in film began as a hobby. In 1979, he joined the Centre national de production cinématographique (CNPC). ''Fire!'' (, ) is a 1991 Malian drama film directed by Adama Drabo. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. Ta Dona follows the story of Sidy, a Bambara young forest commissioner from the city, in Mali, who tries to stop a bush fires break out in a small village. Sidy has been trained in modern techniques. However, he accepts tradition and starts a journey into the Dogon country to find the seventh canari, an ancient herbal remedy for childbirth, believed to contain healing powers.
