Baliuag
Baliwag, officially the City of Baliwag (; , Kapampangan: ''Lakanbalen ning Baliwag/Siudad ning Baliwag,'' also spelled as ''Baliuag''), is a component city in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 168,470 people. The name Baliwag, hispanized as ''Baliuag'', is an old Kapampangan word for "untouched." It was founded in 1732 by Augustinian friars and was incorporated by the Spanish Governor-General on May 26, 1733. It was carved out from the town of Quingua (now Plaridel). Through the years of Spanish domination, Baliuag was predominantly agricultural. People had to depend on rice farming for the main source of livelihood. Mariano Ponce
Mariano Ponce y Collantes (; March 22, 1863 – May 23, 1918) commonly known as just Mariano Ponce was a Filipino physician, writer, statesman, and active member of the Propaganda Movement. In Spain, he was among the founders of ''La Solidaridad'' and ''Asociación Hispano-Filipino''. Among his significant works was ''Efemerides Filipinas'', a column on historical events in the Philippines which appeared in ''La Oceania Española'' (1892–1893) and ''El Ideal'' (1911–1912). He wrote ''Ang Wika at Lahi'' (1917), a discussion on the importance of a national language. He also served as Bulacan's representative to the Philippine Assembly from 1909 to 1912. Bulacan, officially the Province of Bulacan (; ; ; ), is a Provinces of the Philippines, province in the Philippines located in the Central Luzon Regions of the Philippines, region. Kapampangan Language
Kapampangan, Capampáñgan, or Pampangan, is an Austronesian language, and one of the eight major languages of the Philippines. It is the primary and predominant language of the entire province of Pampanga and southern Tarlac, on the southern part of Luzon's central plains geographic region, where the Kapampangan ethnic group resides. Kapampangan is also spoken in northeastern Bataan, as well as in the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Zambales that border Pampanga. Ferdinand "Ferdie" Viceo Estrella (born September 5, 1979) is a Filipino politician who is currently serving as mayor of Baliwag, in office since 2016. Previously, he was a Barangay chairman of Poblacion from 2007 until 2016 and the ABC President of the municipality from 2010 until 2016.
