Balidaan (1971 Film)
'' Balidaan '' is a 1971 Bollywood drama film. The film stars Saira Banu and Manoj Kumar. The film was directed by Ravi Tandon and the story as well as the screenplay/dialog were written by Manoj Kumar and Balkishan Mouj. Plot Central to the plot of ''Balidaan'' is a reworking of the legendary outlaw hero Robin Hood, who is believed to have robbed from the rich and given to the poor. Numerous films have adapted the Robin Hood story and several real-life people who have also followed his ideology. In this Hindi-language adaptation, Raja (Manoj Kumar) is a dacoit, a bandit who robs and kills the wealthy and then distributes this wealth to the poor, to whom he feels this wealth rightfully belonged. Harikrishan Goswami (born 24 July 1937), better known by his screen name Manoj Kumar, is an Indian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, lyricist and editor who worked in Hindi cinema. Bindu Nanubhai Desai (born 17 April 1941), better known mononymously as Bindu, is a former Indian actress who was popular in the 1970s. She has acted in over 160 movies in a career that spanned four decades, receiving seven Filmfare award nominations. She is most remembered for her role as Shabnam in ''Kati Patang'' (1970) and for her films opposite Prem Chopra. Bindu made her film debut in 1962, starring in her first movie Anpadh as Kiran. Krishna Kalle ( kn, ಕೃಷ್ಣಾ ಕಲ್ಲೆ; 18 December 1940 – 15 March 2015) was an Indian playback singer in Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada films. Childhood Kalle's family was from Karwar, Uttara Kannada. She was born and grew up in Kanpur, where her father was employed. At the age of 16, she began singing over the Kanpur station of All India Radio (AIR) and at stage performances in Uttar Pradesh, the state where Kanpur is located. Career When Kalle came to Mumbai to visit relatives, the singer Arun Date happened to hear her sing. Mahendra Kapoor (9 January 1934 – 27 September 2008) was an Indian playback singer. In a long career spanning decades, his repertoire included popular songs such as ''Chalo ekbaar phir se Ajnabi ban jayen hum dono'' ( Gumrah) and ''Neele Gagan ke tale'' ( Hamraaz). Purnima Das Verma (born Meherbhano Mohammad Ali; 2 March 1934 — 14 August 2013) was an Indian actress who worked predominantly in Hindi-language films. Saira Banu (born 23 August 1944) is a former Indian actress who mainly worked in Hindi language films. She was one of the most popular actresses in her heyday in the Indian film industry in the 1960s and early 1970s. Career Saira Banu was the daughter of Naseem Banu, a stage and film actress. She had one brother, Sultan Ahmed (1939-2016), who was five years older than her. Banu was 16 years old in 1960 when she started work for her debut in Hindi films.
