Bali Peace Park
The Bali Peace Park is a proposed memorial dedicated to the victims of the Bali bombing, intended to be located at the site of the Sari Club, which was the second target of the attack. History In 2009, an unauthorized commercial development by Balinese businessman Kadek Wirinatha was stopped by Balinese government officials, leading to a meeting between the Australian Consulate and the Governor. 2002 Bali Bombings
The 2002 Bali bombings were a series of terrorist attacks on 12 October 2002 in the tourist district of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali. The attacks killed 202 people (including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, 23 Britons, and people of more than 20 other nationalities) and injured a further 209. General Da'i Bachtiar, the National Police Chief at the time, said that the bombings was the "worst act of terror in Indonesia's history". Various members of Jemaah Islamiyah (also abbreviated JI), a violent Islamist group, were convicted in relation to the bombings, including three who were sentenced to death.
