Balfour Declaration (other)
The Balfour Declaration was a public statement issued by the British Government in 1917 during the First World War announcing its support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine (region), Palestine, then an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman region with a small minority Jewish population. The declaration was contained in a letter dated 2November 1917 from Arthur Balfour, the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (UK), foreign secretary, to Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild, Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jews, British Jewish community, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. British Library
The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom. Based in London, it is one of the largest libraries in the world, with an estimated collection of between 170 and 200 million items from multiple countries.
