''Baleia! Baleia!'' is a 1971 British documentary short film directed by David Tomblin that received a wide theatrical release. According to editor Teddy Darvas the film started with "twenty thousand feet that was shot for a film that was never made that Leslie Norman had shot" about fishing in the Azores for EMI Films Canal+ Image International (formerly known as EMI Films, Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment, Lumiere Pictures and Television, and UGC DA) was a British-French film, television, animation studio and distributor. A former subsidiary of the EMI congl .... The movie was not completed and John Hargreaves of EMI Films asked Darvas if he could make a short film out of it. Darvas did this and the short film was released with '' The Go Between'' and was very successful. Darvas' assistant was David Gowing who also wrote the commentary. David Tomblin
David Tomblin, OBE (18 October 1930 – 20 July 2005) was an English film and television producer, assistant director, and director. As a producer, he was best known for ''The Prisoner'' TV series. As a first assistant director, he worked on a number of high-profile films, including the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series and the 1978 ''Superman'', and with commercially and critically successful directors including Richard Attenborough, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Sydney Pollack. As a director, he was best known for work on Gerry Anderson's productions, including '' Space: 1999''. Early life and career Tomblin was born in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, England. Canal+ Image International (formerly known as EMI Films, Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment, Lumiere Pictures and Television, and UGC DA) was a British-French film, television, animation studio and distributor. A former subsidiary of the EMI conglomerate, the corporate name was not used throughout the entire period of EMI's involvement in the film industry, from 1969 to 1986, but the company's brief connection with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Anglo-EMI, the division under Nat Cohen, and the later company as part of the Thorn EMI conglomerate (following the merger with Thorn) are outlined here. The library passed through the hands of several companies over the following years and is now owned by StudioCanal, a former sister company to Universal Music Group and parent company Canal+ Group's acquisition of European cinema operator UGC who acquired the library's then-owner, the United Kingdom-based Lumiere Pictures and Television in 1996, via Cannon Films. ''The Go-Between'' is a 1971 British historical drama film directed by Joseph Losey. Its screenplay by Harold Pinter is an adaptation of the 1953 novel '' The Go-Between'' by L. P. Hartley.
