The Balboa 16 is an American Trailer sailer, trailerable sailboat that was designed by W. Shad Turner as a day sailer and first built in 1981.Sherwood, Richard M.: ''A Field Guide to Sailboats of North America, Second Edition'', pages 64-65. Houghton Mifflin Company, 1994. Production The design was built by Coastal Recreation, Inc in Costa Mesa, California, United States starting in 1981. The company was bought out by Laguna Yachts of Stanton, California and became a subsidiary. Laguna Yachts developed the design into the Laguna 16 in 1984, but went out of business in 1986. The boat is no longer in production. Design The Balboa 16 is a small recreational keelboat intended for beginner sailors. It is built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. Balboa Productions is an American film and television production company founded and led by Sylvester Stallone. The studio is named after his character Rocky Balboa from the ''Rocky'' franchise. History On May 30, 2018, Sylvester Stallone formed Balboa Productions with a partnership with Starlight Culture Entertainment. Braden Aftergood was named as the executive of scripted development. The Balboa Amusement Producing Company (also known as Balboa Studios, and Balboa Feature Film Company) was a film production company in Long Beach, California, from 1913 to 1918 that produced more than 1000 films, around 90% of which have been lost. Some of the notable silent film stars who worked at the studios during this time are Fatty Arbuckle and Buster Keaton. The Pearl Islands (Spanish: Archipiélago de las Perlas or Islas de las Perlas) is a group of 200 or more islands and islets (many tiny and uninhabited) lying about off the Pacific coast of Panama in the Gulf of Panama. Islands The most notable island is Contadora Island (or Isla Contadora in Spanish), known for its resorts. Contadora was said to be used by the Spanish conquistadors as a stop for taking inventory of booty prior to returning to Spain, hence the name (''contador'' means counter or bookkeeper in Spanish). Robert "Rocky" Balboa (also known by his ring name the Italian Stallion) is a fictional character and the titular protagonist of the ''Rocky'' franchise. The Balboa, also known as "Bal", is a swing dance that emerged in Southern California during the early 1930s as a response to swing music. The earliest recorded reference to Balboa is 1932. This date coincides with what is generally accepted to be the beginning of swing. The dance enjoyed huge popularity in California during the 1930s and 1940s, and was still being danced by original dancers into the 21st century. Balboa is a dance that distinctively relies on closed position. The earliest form of the dance emerged in the high schools and dance venues of southern California. Spaces were often limited, the floor was waxed and there was traditionally a line of dance around the room. Balboa is danced into the floor and drifts without a prescribed line of dance.
