Bakhytzhan Ertaev
Bakhytzhan Ertaevich Ertaev (; born in Zhambyl on July 25, 1952) is a Kazakhstani military commander, Kazakhstani Chief of the General Staff (1997—2000), Lieutenant general (1998), People's Hero of Kazakhstan (2008). Biography Bakhytzhan Ertaev was born in Kenes settlement (Jualy District, Jambyl Region) on July 25, 1952. Ertaev enrolled in Tashkent Supreme All-Arms Command School named after Lenin in 1969, and went on to study at the Military Institute of the Kazakh Ground Forces when the Central Asian Military District was established. He started his officer career in 1973 as a platoon commander in the 186th motorized rifle regiment of the 68th Novgorod Order of the Red Banner Motor Rifle Division, then Ertaev became a company commander in the 186th motorized rifle regiment of the 108th Motor Rifle Division and eventually a Chief of Staff of a motorized rifle battalion. The Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan ( kk, Қазақстан Республикасының Қарулы Күштері, , russian: Вооружённые силы Республики Казахстан) is the unified armed forces of Kazakhstan. It consists of three branches ( Ground Forces, Air Defense Forces, Naval Forces) as well as four independent formations ( Air Assault Forces, Special Forces, Rocket and Artillery Forces, Territorial Troops). The National Guard, Civil Defense, Border Service and the State Security Service serve as militarized affiliates of the armed forces. Фрунзе), or in full the Military Order of Lenin and the October Revolution, Red Banner, Order of Suvorov Academy in the name of M. V.
