Bak Myeong-cheol
Pak Myong-chol (; born 15 September 1941) is a North Korean political figure who joined the 6th Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party in September 2010, along with Kim Jong Un. He has served in several important posts in North Korea, including on the National Defence Commission and as Minister of Physical Culture and Sports in the Cabinet of North Korea. Life and career Pak Myong-chol was born on 15 September 1941, in the northwestern Korean county of Uiju. When Pak was 17 or 18 years old, in 1959, his father Pak Jong-ho () was sent to South Korea on a mission from North Korean leader Kim Il Sung and captured and killed. Consequently, the North Korean leader reportedly told the young Pak and his siblings that he, Kim Il Sung, would "look after them." Uiju County
Ŭiju is a kun, or county, in North Pyongan Province, North Korea. The county has an area of 420 km2, and a population of 110,018 (2008 data). Name Ŭiju appears as Uiju in South Korea's Revised Romanization and as Yizhou in Chinese sources, as during its occupation by general Mao Wenlong's forces during the Transition from Ming to Qing. Geography Ŭiju County borders Sakchu county and Kusŏng to the east, Sŏnch'ŏn and Ch'ŏlsan counties to the south, and Ryongch'ŏn county and Sinŭiju to the west, respectively. To the north, Ŭiju shares a border with China. Death And State Funeral Of Kim Jong Il
The death of Kim Jong Il () was reported by Korean Central Television, North Korean state television news on 19 December 2011. The presenter Ri Chun-hee announced that he had died on 17 December at 8:30 am of a massive heart attack while North Korean leaders' trains, traveling by train to an area outside Pyongyang. Reportedly, he had received medical treatment for cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases, and during the trip, Kim was said to have had an "advanced acute myocardial infarction, complicated with a serious heart shock". His son Kim Jong Un was announced as North Korea's next leader during the same newscast as "great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche and outstanding leader of our party, army and people". Kim Young-sook (; born 1947) was the second wife of Kim Jong Il. She was the daughter of a high-ranking military official, and was a switchboard operator in North Hamgyong Province before moving to Pyongyang.
