Bak Jeongyang
Bak Jeongyang (; 1841 – 1904) was a Korean Joseon dynasty politician and edification activist. a member of Independence Club (독립협회;獨立協會) and the People's Joint Association (만민공동회;萬民共同會). He was a supporter of the slow modernization of Korea under the Joseon dynasty and himself belonged to the Pannam Park clan.Bak Jeongyang He was also the father of famous Korean playwright Park Seung-hee (1901-1964). Park or Bak (, ), is the third-most-common surname in Korea, traditionally traced back to 1st century King Hyeokgeose Park () and theoretically inclusive of all of his descendants. Soh Jaipil
Soh Jaipil or Seo Jae-pil (January 7, 1864 – January 5, 1951), also known as Philip Jaisohn, was a Korean- American political activist and physician who was a noted champion of the Korean independence movement, the first Korean naturalized citizen of the United States, and founded '' Tongnip Sinmun'', the first Korean newspaper in Hangul. Soh was one of the organizers of the failed Gapsin Coup in 1884 and convicted for treason, seeking refuge in the United States where he became a citizen and earned a medical doctorate. Upon returning to Korea in 1895, Soh was offered a position as a chief advisor of the Joseon government. He declined, choosing to focus on further development of reform movements, where he advocated for democracy, leaving the Chinese sphere of influence, and numerous civil rights and universal suffrage. Syngman Rhee
Syngman Rhee (, ; 26 March 1875 – 19 July 1965) was a South Korean politician who served as the first president of South Korea from 1948 to 1960. Rhee was also the first and last president of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea from 1919 to his impeachment in 1925 and from 1947 to 1948. As President of South Korea, First Republic of Korea, Rhee's government was characterised by authoritarianism, limited economic development, and in the late 1950s growing political instability and public opposition. Yun Chi-ho
Yun Chi-ho (Korean: 윤치호, hanja: 尹致昊, 1864 – 1945) or Tchi ho yun was an important political activist and thinker during the late 1800s and early 1900s in Joseon Korea. His penname was Jwa-ong (좌옹, 佐翁); his courtesy name was Sungheum (성흠;聖欽), or Sungheum (성흠;成欽). Yun was a prominent member of reformist organizations such as the Independence Club (독립협회;獨立協會), led by Seo Jae-pil, the People's joint association (만민공동회;萬民共同會), and the New People's Association (신민회;新民會). Park Yung-hyo or Bak Young-hyo (; 1861 – 21 September 1939) was a Korean politician from the Joseon Dynasty, an enlightenment activist, diplomat and pro-Japanese collaborator. He was one of the organizers of the Gapsin Coup of 1884, in which progressive political elements attempted to overthrow the conservative Korean government.
