Mary Anne Baikie
Mary Anne Baikie (29 June 1861 – 1950) a Scottish suffragist who established the Orcadian Women's Suffrage Society (OWSS) and grew the membership and public interest in the debate, in the Orkney Isles, during the campaigns for Votes for Women. Suffragist leadership Baikie chaired the first official public meeting in Orkney to form a society for women's suffrage, on 25 October 1909. This followed a preliminary meeting at the home of James and Bina Cursiter, when Chrystal Macmillan, the suffragist champion of women's rights to a university education, had visited in Orkney, a month before. Baikie spoke at the launch in Kirkwall Town Hall, saying: I do not come as a political woman, but I have come as a friend of the cause of women, because of my sincere conviction, held since my early youth, that the suffrage will raise the status, and improve the condition of all women – particularly the women workers. Jim Baikie
James George Baikie (; 28 February 1940 – 29 December 2017) was a Scottish comics artist best known for his work with Alan Moore on '' Skizz''. He was also a musician. Biography Baikie served as a Corporal with the Royal Air Force in 1956–1963 before joining a printing company. Baikie joined Morgan-Grampian studio as an artist in 1964 and was an illustrator for the National Savings Committee in 1965–1966. Balkie was a bass guitarist in bands ''James Fenda and the Vulcans'' and ''Compass'' among others. Baikie began his comics career illustrating the romance comic '' Valentine'' for Fleetway. Over the next twenty years, he built a solid reputation working for TV comics such as ''Look-in'', including adaptations of ''The Monkees'' and ''Star Trek'', all scripted by Angus Allan. David Baikie
David Baikie (born 11 August 1953) is a Scottish former football manager. Career Arbroath His began management in the Scottish Football League with Arbroath F.C. in 1997. He led the club from bottom of the Third Division to promotion, before resigning over a lack of funding in 2000. Tayport Baikie returned to the junior ranks to manage Tayport. Cowdenbeath Baikie returned to the Scottish Football League in 2004 as manager of Cowdenbeath. He lost his job the following year, however, when he was charged with an assault outside a bar in Dundee. East Fife Baikie was appointed manager of East Fife in 2006 during a turbulent period in the club's history. Despite this led the side to the Scottish Third Division championship the next season. Iain Baikie
Iain Douglas Baikie, (born 27 August 1960) is a Scottish physicist, inventor and company Director. He specialises in Material Science. Baikie supervises PhDs at Imperial College London and the University of St Andrews in thin-film electronics. In 2000 he founded a company- KP Technology in Wick. In 1997 Baikie was appointed Professor of Applied Physics with a Chair in Materials Science for his work on surface work function and the scanning Kelvin probe and is visiting professor at the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bio-Engineering Centre at the University of Ulster, Belfast. He is an honorary professor at the University of St Andrews. Research Baikie developed the UK's first UHV High Resolution Scanning Kelvin Probe (SKP) incorporating surface tracking which has been applied to a range of surface phenomena. Peter Baikie
Peter Baikie (born 1957) is a Scottish comedian and composer. He appeared in the British comedy sketch-show '' Absolutely'', composed music for TV and radio and helped set up 'The Smiling Sessions', a charity that brings live music into care homes. As a TV producer, he won 4 Welsh BAFTA Awards for his work with John Sparkes. Comedy Career – Baikie first performed at the 1980 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the comedy sketch group 'The Bodgers' which he formed with George Watson's College schoolfriends Moray Hunter, Gordon Kennedy and Jack Docherty. Their 1984 show 'Arfington, Arfington' and '85 show 'Mr Hargreaves Did It' were both shortlisted for the Perrier Comedy Award. Robert Baikie
Robert Baikie (died 1817) was a Scottish politician from Tankerness and Egilshay in Orkney. Baikie was the oldest son of James Baikie of Tankerness and his wife Janet, a daughter of William Douglas, and heiress of the Monteiths of Egilshay through her grandfather Alexander. His father was provost of Kirkwall during the Jacobite rising of 1745, and was paid a pension by the Earls of Morton for his support of their electoral interests. However, in 1766 James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton sold all his interests in Orkney to Sir Lawrence Dundas. At the 1768 general election Sir Lawrence installed as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Orkney and Shetland his older brother Thomas Dundas, who was returned unopposed. Thomas stood down in 1770, and the following year Thomas's son Captain Thomas Dundas was elected unopposed. He was returned unopposed at the 1774 general election.
