Baie-Comeau Drakkar
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar is a junior ice hockey team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League that plays at Centre Henry-Leonard in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, Canada. The name "Drakkar" refers to a type of longship. History The Drakkar first played in the QMJHL in 1997–98 season. One of the founders of the team was former Quebec Nordique co-founder Marius Fortier. Baie-Comeau has never won the President's Cup, and with just seven winning seasons in their history. The 2012–13 team had the second-best record during the regular season and reached the league finals for the first time in franchise history, but lost to the Halifax Mooseheads, four games to one. Baie-Comeau
Baie-Comeau (; 2021 city population 20,687; CA population 26,643) is a city located approximately north-east of Quebec City in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the shores of the Saint Lawrence River near the mouth of the Manicouagan River, and is the seat of Manicouagan Regional County Municipality. There are two urban area population centres within the city limits: Baie-Comeau proper, with a population of 9,100, and Hauterive, with a population of 11,147, as of the 2021 Canadian Census. The city is named after the adjacent Comeau Bay, which is named in honour of Napoléon-Alexandre Comeau, a Québécois naturalist. Gabriel Bourque
Gabriel Bourque (born September 23, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who is currently under contract with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL). He was selected by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Early career As a youth, Bourque played in the 2003 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Baie-Comeau Petit Drakkar minor ice hockey team. Bourque began his major junior ice hockey career with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar during the 2007–08 season. Bourque was selected in the fifth round, 132nd overall by the Nashville Predators during the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. 2003–04 QMJHL Season
The 2003–04 QMJHL season was the 35th season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The league continued to expand to new eastern markets, with teams relocating to Maine and Prince Edward Island. Conferences were abandoned and teams were divided into three divisions by geography. Sixteen teams played 70 games each in the schedule. The Lewiston Maineiacs became the league's second American-based team in history after the Plattsburgh Pioneers, and first to survive a full season. The P.E.I. Rocket also became the first major junior hockey team based on Prince Edward Island. Rookie Sidney Crosby led the league in scoring as a 16-year-old, and won the Michel Brière Memorial Trophy as the MVP of the regular season. The 1999–2000 QMJHL season was the 31st season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The league grants the Montreal Rocket an expansion franchise, returning a team to the most populous city in Quebec. The QMJHL splits into four divisions, retaining the names Lebel and Dilio for its conferences. Éric Veilleux
Éric Veilleux (born February 20, 1972) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. Veilleux spent most of his professional career in the American Hockey League. He is an assistant coach with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. Coaching career For the 2015–16 season, he was the head coach with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL following a season as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals. In May 2016, he was named the head coach and general manager of the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before being hired to coach the Colorado Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, on July 6, 2016. He coached the Rampage for two seasons, finishing out of the playoffs in both occasions, before leaving the club and Avalanche organization following the 2017–18 season. Mario Pouliot
Mario Pouliot (born September 30, 1963) is a Canadian former ice hockey coach and general manager. He began coaching in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) as an assistant coach with the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser. He later coached the Collège Antoine-Girouard Gaulois for eight seasons, and once held the Quebec AAA Midget Hockey League record for the most career wins by a head coach. He also led the Gaulois to the finals of the 2003 Air Canada Cup for the Canadian national Midget AAA championship. He later served two terms as an assistant coach for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies around a head-coaching stint for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. During this time, he was chosen as head coach of Team Quebec at the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. Pouliot later coached the Acadie–Bathurst Titan for four seasons, and won the 2018 Memorial Cup championship, then served as the coach and general manager of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies from 2018 to 2021.
