Bahrain Interior Ministry
The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for law enforcement and public safety in Bahrain. The headquarters of the ministry is the Diwan Fort (also known as Manama Fort) in Manama, colloquially referred to as "al-gal'aa". The current Interior Minister is Lieutenant General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, who has been in office since 2004. He is a member of the Al Khalifa royal family and a cousin of King Hamad. Apart from the Bahrain Defence Force, which reports to the Minister of Defence, the public security forces and the Coast Guard report to the Minister of Interior. The Cabinet of Bahrain is the chief executive body of the Kingdom of Bahrain. According to Article 32 (b) of the 2002 Constitution, "executive authority is vested in the King together with the Council of Ministers and Ministers". The Special Security Force Command () (SSFC) is a paramilitary law enforcement body in Bahrain under the command of the Ministry of the Interior. The SSFC is more commonly referred to as the "Special Security Forces", the "Special Forces", "Bahrain Special Security Forces (BSSF) or as the "riot police" (). Accusations The Special Security Forces have been accused of human rights abuses while trying to suppress pro-democratic activity in Bahrain. The SSFC has been at the frontline of the Bahrain government's crackdown on pro-democracy protesters during the 2011 Bahraini uprising in the Arab Spring. National Security Agency (Bahrain)
The National Security Agency (NSA) or Bahrain Intelligence Agency (BIA1) () is an investigative authority, and secret police agency, in Bahrain that is associated with but not formally part of the Ministry of the Interior. The NSA was formed after King Hamad issued Decree No. 14 of 2002 declaring it as the replacement of the General Directorate for State Security Investigations. The NSA was granted the power to make arrests by a 2008 royal decree, and lost this power in 2011, again by royal decree. History Before 2002, the NSA was organized as the 'General Directorate for State Security Investigations' (), also known as 'Security and Intelligence Service'. Mohammed Bin Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Khalifa
Sheikh Mohamad bin Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa is a senior member of the Bahraini ruling family. He was born in 1937. He has a degree from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He became a police inspector in 1959, and director of immigration and passports in 1966. He was later appointed as director in public security department. He was appointed as Minister of Interior in December 1973, and served in that position until May 2004. He was removed from that position due to violent clashes Shia protesters.
