Eleuthera
Eleuthera () refers both to a single island in the archipelagic state of The Commonwealth of the Bahamas and to its associated group of smaller islands. Eleuthera forms a part of the Great Bahama Bank. The island of Eleuthera incorporates the smaller Harbour Island. "Eleuthera" derives from the feminine form of the Greek adjective ἐλεύθερος (''eleútheros''), meaning "free". Known in the 17th century as Cigateo, it lies 80 km (50 miles) east of Nassau. It is long and thin—180 km (110 miles) long and in places little more than 1.6 km (1.0 mile) wide. Its eastern side faces the Atlantic Ocean, and its western side faces the Great Bahama Bank. Kristal Ambrose
Kristal Ambrose is a Bahamian marine biologist and environmental activist. In 2013, she founded the Bahamas Plastic Movement, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing plastic pollution. Early life and education Ambrose's passion for conserving marine life began due to experiences she had in her early life. She would go swimming every day with her father and later worked at an aquarium. Ambrose studied Fisheries Management and Aquaculture at Hocking College and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Gannon University. She also has a Master of Science in Marine Affairs from Dalhousie University. Ambrose began studying for a Doctor of Philosophy at the World Maritime University in 2020. Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g. plastic bottles, bags and microbeads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects humans, wildlife and their habitat. Plastics that act as pollutants are categorized by size into micro-, meso-, or macro debris. Plastics are inexpensive and durable, making them very adaptable for different uses; as a result, manufacturers choose to use plastic over other materials. However, the chemical structure of most plastics renders them resistant to many natural processes of degradation and as a result they are slow to degrade. Together, these two factors allow large volumes of plastic to enter the environment as mismanaged waste and for it to persist in the ecosystem. Plastic Pollution Coalition
The Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC) is an advocacy group and social movement organization which seeks to reduce plastic pollution. PPC operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the umbrella organization Earth Island Institute. Positions PPC asserts that plastic recycling is unhelpful. Instead, they endorse taxes on plastic bags, propose the elimination of single-use plastics, and emphasize producer responsibility for the end-life of their products. PPC has advocated for the discontinuation of single-use plastic drinking straws, describing this as a "gateway issue to help people start thinking about the global plastic pollution problem". "You Can't Control It" is a song by American musician Jack Johnson from his 2017 album ''All the Light Above It Too''. The song was released on August 25, 2017, and is the third single from the album. The song was written about the pollution in the ocean and on beaches. The song originated from a jam that Jack played the drums in with Zach Gill in his garage. Jack then decided to play the riff for his producer Robbie Lackritz to see if it should be featured on the album. Lackritz said the drum beat sounded like "Any other 90's song." They changed the 90's drum beat to many different beats by layering them together. Release The song's music video was released exclusively on ''Entertainment Weekly'' on August 24, 2017. ''All the Light Above It Too'' is the seventh studio album by American musician Jack Johnson. The album was released on September 8, 2017. The album's lead single, titled " My Mind Is for Sale", was released on July 14, 2017. It is the first release by Johnson since the 2013 album '' From Here to Now to You''. Composition Brushfire Records originally made a deal with Johnson to release a new album every two years, which set the release date for November 2015. But Jack did not want to write a song when he did not feel like it; he wanted to write it when it felt natural. The first song written from the album was " Fragments." The song was written during the filming of the movie ''The Smog of the Sea''. It first started off as a small jam session between the crew, and is featured in the movie.
