Badminton At The 2023 European Games
Badminton at the 2023 European Games was held at Hala Unii, Arena Jaskółka, Tarnów, Poland from 26 June to 2 July. The badminton programme in 2023 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions. The event was functioned as the European Badminton Championships, 2023 European Badminton Championships. Qualification Qualification was decided entirely by European rankings, using the BWF World Ranking, BWF World Ranking system with non-European players removed. NOCs could enter up to two entries per event, provided that both entrants were in the top 8 individuals, or top 4 doubles pairs in the relevant European list - Denmark (twice), France and Great Britain were able to avail of this rule. Otherwise NOCs are restricted to one entry per event. In addition to France, Denmark and Great Britain, a further six NOCs achieved a single entry in every event, including the host, Poland. Arena Jaskółka Tarnów is an arena in Tarnów, Poland. It is primarily used for handball and basketball. Carolina María Marín Martín (born 15 June 1993) is a Spanish badminton player. She is an Badminton at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's singles, Olympic Champion, three-time BWF World Championships, World Champion, and eight-time European Champion. Cheryl Seinen
Cheryl Seinen (born 4 August 1995) is a Dutch badminton player. She won the women's doubles gold medal at the 2019 European Games with Selena Piek, and later the silver medal in 2023 with Debora Jille. She also won two individual bronze medals at the European Badminton Championships. Career Cheryl started playing badminton at a young age, brought to the sports hall by her parents, who were both former badminton players and now coaches in the Dutch city of Roermond. When she was 13 years old she moved away from her home to the Western part of the Netherlands to play badminton in Amstelveen for van Zijderveld. At age 15 she was called upon to join the Dutch National juniors squad in Papendal. After two and a half years she was removed from the National team, but fought her way back to the top and back into the National squad. Debora Jille
Debora Jille (born 11 September 1999) is a Dutch badminton player. Partnered with Cheryl Seinen, she won the bronze medals at the 2023 European Games and 2024 European Championships. She also won the bronze medal at the 2025 European Championships with Sara Thygesen. Career Debora Jille started playing badminton when she was almost seven years old. Just like her brothers Stefan and Ruben they first started playing tennis before picking up the sport of their mother, badminton in Houten and in Amersfoort. She won the women's doubles title twice at the Dutch National Badminton Championships in 2022 and 2023 together with partner Cheryl Seinen; and also won the mixed doubles title in 2022 with Ties van der Lecq. Stefani Stoeva
Stefani Stoeva (; born 23 September 1995) is a Bulgarian badminton player specializing in doubles. Her current partner is her older sister, Gabriela Stoeva. They competed at the 2016, 2020 and the 2024 Summer Olympics. The duo together have won gold medals in the 2015 and 2023 European Games and also four successive European Championships in 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2025 editions. Gabriela Stoeva
Gabriela Stoeva (; born 15 July 1994) is a Bulgarian badminton player specializing in doubles. Her current partner is her younger sister, Stefani Stoeva. The pair is the four-time European Champion and two-time European Games gold medalist as well. They competed at the 2016, 2020 and the 2024 Summer Olympics. Career Gabriela Stoeva started playing badminton at age 10 in the Haskovo School Club. She joined the national team in 2008, and made a debut in the international event in 2009. Alexander Dunn (born 13 September 1998) is a Scottish badminton player. Born in Bellshill, Dunn started playing badminton at aged seven, and joined the national team in 2009. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships in the boys' doubles event with his partner Adam Hall, also the silver medal in the mixed doubles event with Eleanor O'Donnell in 2017. Sean Vendy (born 18 May 1996) is a badminton player from England. He started playing badminton at aged 5 in Orkney, then moved to England at 7. He became part of the England national badminton team in May 2015. In 2022, he partnered with Ben Lane won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal in the European Championships. Ben Lane
Ben Lane (born 13 July 1997) is an English badminton player. He won the men's doubles silver medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2023 European Games, and also a bronze medal in the European Championships. Personal life Ben's mother Suzanne Louis-Lane, represented England in badminton and had won the women's singles title at the National Championships in 1993 and 1994. Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (born 15 February 1989) is a Danish badminton player. Rasmussen won the men's doubles title at the 2018 European Championships and at the 2023 European Games partnered with Kim Astrup. Kim Astrup
Kim Astrup Sørensen (born 6 March 1992) is a Danish badminton player. He was the men's doubles gold medalists at the 2018 European Championships and the 2023 European Games with his partner Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. He also won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2021 and later a silver medal in 2023. Astrup joined the Denmark winning team at the 2016 Thomas Cup in Kunshan, China, where he and his teammates beating Indonesia 3–2 in the final.
