Badminton At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Doubles
These are the results of the women's doubles competition in badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Two duos playing for China took the gold and bronze medals, while South Korea took silver in the tournament. China at the 2008 Summer Olympics, China's Du Jing and Yu Yang (badminton), Yu Yang defeated South Korea at the 2008 Summer Olympics, South Korea's Lee Hyo-jung (badminton), Lee Hyo-jung and Lee Kyung-won in the final, 21–15, 21–13, to win the gold medal in women's doubles badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The pair won China's fourth consecutive gold medal in women's doubles badminton. In the bronze-medal match, China's Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen defeated Japan at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Japan's Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna, 21–17, 21–10. Beijing University Of Technology Gymnasium
The Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the Beijing University of Technology in the Chaoyang District, Beijing, Chaoyang District in Beijing, China. The gymnasium hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics, badminton and Gymnastics at the 2008 Summer Olympics, rhythmic gymnastics events. The gymnasium seating capacity is 7,500 and has a floor space of 2700 square metres. After the Olympic Games, it has served as a training facility for Chinese badminton teams and also as a sports and recreational activities centre for students and local communities. Satoko Suetsuna
is a badminton player from Japan. Born in Ōita, Ōita Prefecture, she joined Renesas badminton club and later affiliated with Saishunkan team. She was a bronze medalist at the 2011 BWF World Championships with her partner Miyuki Maeda. Career Suetsuna has gained prominence in badminton through her success in women's doubles with her partner Miyuki Maeda, and the partnerships known by the Japanese media as "Suemae". Together they won the 2010 Denmark Open, their first major tournament victory. They went on to win the 2011 Malaysia Grand Prix Gold and the 2011 India Open. Suetsuna and Maeda also have two bronze medals from major competitions from making the semifinals at the 2011 London World Championships and 2010 Uber Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Chantal Botts (born 30 March 1976) is a South African badminton player. Botts was the gold medallist in the women's doubles event at the 2003 and 2007 All-Africa Games. Li Yujia (Simplified Chinese: 李羽佳; born 18 January 1983) is a Chinese-born Singaporean badminton player who competed at the Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 Summer Olympics in the women's and mixed doubles event. Jiang Yanmei (; born 28 February 1981) is a Chinese-born Singaporean badminton player. She competed at the Badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 and Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 Summer Olympics; Badminton at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, 2002 and Badminton at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games; and also Badminton at the 2006 Asian Games, 2006 Asian Games. Mesinee Mangkalakiri
Mesinee "May" Mangkalakiri (; ; born April 21, 1983) is an American badminton player of Thai descent. She won a bronze medal, along with her partner Raju Rai, in the mixed doubles at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She repeated her bronze medal performance with her new partner Bob Malaythong in the mixed doubles, and also, beat Canada's Fiona McKee and Charmaine Reid for the gold in the women's doubles at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mangkalakiri is also a member of Orange County Badminton Club in Anaheim, California, and is coached and trained by former Olympic doubles champion Tony Gunawan (2000), who is currently playing for the United States. Wong Pei Tty
Wong Pei Tty (, born 11 November 1981) is a Malaysian former doubles badminton player. Wong is currently the Head Coach of the Badminton Academy in Singapore Sport School. Her previous stint included being coach for Malaysia women's doubles national team. Career Wong competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with partner Chin Eei Hui. They defeated Seiko Yamada and Shizuka Yamamoto of Japan in the first round but were defeated by Gao Ling and Huang Sui of China in the round of 16. Together, Wong and Chin achieved much success by winning Superseries and Superseries Finals titles. They also clinched gold and bronze medals in 2010 and 2002 Commonwealth Games. Chin Eei Hui
Chin Eei Hui (; Hakka Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: Chhìn Ngì-fui; born 18 June 1982) is a former badminton player from Malaysia who plays in both women's and mixed doubles. She worked as a coach for Malaysia's national women's doubles players until her contract ended in 2020. Starting from 2021 until now, she has partnered with Li-Ning and works with independent players such as Tan Kian Meng, Lai Pei Jing, Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin. Eugenia Tanaka (born 9 March 1987 in Kisaran, North Sumatra, Indonesia) is an Indonesian-born Australian badminton player. Tania Ann Luiz (born 28 August 1983) is an Australian badminton player. At the age of nine, Luiz moved with her family to Melbourne, Australia. She started playing badminton three years later, and went on to represent Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, coincidentally in her home city. Vita Marissa (born 4 January 1981) is an Indonesian retired badminton player. Career Marissa competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in mixed doubles with partner Nova Widianto. They had a bye in the first round and defeated Robert Blair (badminton), Robert Blair and Natalie Munt of Great Britain in the second. In the quarterfinals, Marissa and Widianto lost to Jens Eriksen and Mette Schjoldager of Denmark 15–12, 15–8. In September 2008 Marissa and her new partner Muhammad Rijal won in mixed doubles at the Japan Open (badminton), Japan Super Series after beating Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir 14–21, 21–15, 21–19 in the all Indonesian final.
