Bad Vibes (Lloyd Cole Album)
''Bad Vibes'' is the third studio album by Lloyd Cole. It was released in October 1993 on Fontana Records and reached number 38 on the UK Albums Chart and number 8 on the Swedish chart. Critical reception Upon its release, Johnny Dee of ''NME'' gave a mixed review of ''Bad Vibes''. He commented that, like Cole's previous two solo albums, there was "plenty to recommend" and praised the "majestic" "Morning Is Broken", the "lyrical wisecracks" of "So You'd Like to Save the World" and the "druggy Beatles drawl" of "Love You So What". He felt the album then "very quickly get bogged down in arty sleaze", picking "Wild Mushrooms" as the "nadir" and adding that "there's more lyrical embarrassments" on "Can't Get Arrested". He concluded, "If only he'd stop trying to impress us. 'Identity Crisis – The Musical' would have been a better title." Sarra Manning of ''Melody Maker'' noted the album's "definite Sixties timbre, as in little acoustic refrains, gently thumping piano and windy chord ...

So You'd Like To Save The World
"So You'd Like to Save the World" is a song by English singer, songwriter and musician Lloyd Cole, released in 1993 as the lead single from his third studio album '' Bad Vibes''. The song was written by Cole and produced by Adam Peters. It peaked at number 72 in the UK Singles Chart and remained in the top 75 for two weeks. Background Like the rest of the ''Bad Vibes'' album, "So You'd Like to Save the World" was recorded in Cole's home studio in New York. Speaking of the song's message, which takes a swipe at po-faced environmentalists, Cole told the '' Daily Record'' in 1993, "I'm having a gentle go at people like Sting and Peter Gabriel. Both of these guys have a sense of humour, so why don't they use it more? If you believe in helping the environment, it doesn't mean you can't make fun of it, too. The song is very self-mocking. I recycle products as much as the next guy, and I'm all for these environmental issues. If people take my song too literally, I don't care. I'm sick of ...

Morning Is Broken
"Morning Is Broken" is a song by English singer, songwriter and musician Lloyd Cole, released in 1993 as the second and final single from his third studio album '' Bad Vibes''. The song was written by Cole and produced by Adam Peters. It reached number 83 in the UK Singles Chart and remained in the top 100 for two weeks. Background "Morning Is Broken" originated as the track "Sleeper", which was named after a patch used on it from a Sequential Prophet VS synthesiser. The song was then recorded properly, including John Valentine Carruthers on guitar and Anton Fier on drums, and a mix of the track was completed. As Cole was later unhappy with the song's structure, he reworked its arrangement and had backing vocals added. The song's original mix remained unreleased until it appeared on Cole's 2009 compilation ''Cleaning Out the Ashtrays (Collected B-Sides & Rarities 1989-2006)''. Speaking of the song's lyrics in 2005, Cole said, "I still quite like the lyric and it is, I hope, on the ...

Melody Maker
''Melody Maker'' was a British weekly music magazine, one of the world's earliest music weeklies; according to its publisher, IPC Media, the earliest. It was founded in 1926, largely as a magazine for dance band musicians, by Leicester-born composer, publisher Lawrence Wright; the first editor was Edgar Jackson. In January 2001, it was merged into "long-standing rival" (and IPC Media sister publication) '' New Musical Express''. 1950s–1960s Originally the ''Melody Maker'' (''MM'') concentrated on jazz, and had Max Jones, one of the leading British proselytizers for that music, on its staff for many years. It was slow to cover rock and roll and lost ground to the ''New Musical Express'' (''NME''), which had begun in 1952. ''MM'' launched its own weekly singles chart (a top 20) on 7 April 1956, and an LPs charts in November 1958, two years after the ''Record Mirror'' had published the first UK Albums Chart. From 1964, the paper led its rival publications in terms of appro ...
