Backlash 2004
The 2004 Backlash was the sixth Backlash professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was held exclusively for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw brand division. The event took place on April 18, 2004, at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, thus being the only Backlash event held outside the continental United States until the 2023 event. The concept of the pay-per-view was based around the backlash from WrestleMania XX. The main event was a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship involving reigning champion and hometown hero Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, which Benoit won after forcing Michaels to submit to the sharpshooter. The 2023 Backlash was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and livestreaming event produced by the American company WWE. It was the 18th annual Backlash and took place Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, held for wrestlers from the promotion's Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. This was the first WWE pay-per-view event held in Puerto Rico since New Year's Revolution in January 2005, and the second Backlash event held outside the continental United States following the 2004 event. Cutter (professional Wrestling)
In professional wrestling, a cutter is a facelock neckbreaker maneuver. This move sees an attacking wrestler first apply a facelock (reaching back and grabbing the head of an opponent, thus pulling the opponent's jaw above the wrestler's shoulder) before falling backwards (sometimes after running forwards first) to force the opponent face-first to the mat below. The cutter was innovated by Johnny Ace, who called it the ''Ace Crusher''. It was later popularized by Diamond Dallas Page, who called it the ''Diamond Cutter'', which is where the move got its name. Pin (professional Wrestling)
In professional wrestling, a pin is a move where a wrestler holds an opponent's shoulders to the mat in an attempt to score a fall. A pinfall is a common victory condition, where the attacker pins an opponent and the referee makes a three count before the opponent gets released from the pin. Background The origin of the pinfall is the pin from amateur wrestling, whereby pinning an opponent to the mat will result in an automatic victory despite any points scored. However, while an amateur wrestling pin need be only one or two seconds, the count in professional wrestling is based on the referee's arm gestures, regardless of how much actual time elapses, and is to three slaps of the mat. The WWE Intercontinental Championship is a men's professional wrestling championship created and promoted by the American promotion WWE, defended on the Raw brand division. It is one of two secondary championships for WWE's main roster, along with the WWE United States Championship on SmackDown. The current champion is Dominik Mysterio, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating previous champion Bron Breakker, Penta, and Finn Bálor, whom Mysterio pinned, in a fatal four-way match on night two of WrestleMania 41 on April 20, 2025. Many types of wrestling matches, sometimes called "gimmick matches" in the jargon of the business, are performed in professional wrestling. In sports, a card lists the matches taking place in a title match combat-sport event. Cards include a main event match and the undercard listing the rest of the matches. The undercard may be divided into a midcard and a lower card, according to the perceived importance of the matches. Promoters schedule matches to occur in ascending order of importance. Sharpshooter (professional Wrestling)
The ''Sharpshooter'', also known as the ''Scorpion Deathlock'' and technically known as the ''sasori-gatame'' (蠍固め or サソリ固め; English: scorpion hold), is a professional wrestling submission hold. Similar to several holds such as the cloverleaf leg-lace, the ''Boston crab'' and the standing reverse figure-four leglock, the move was invented by Karl Gotch, and given to Riki Choshu, one of his students. It was then popularized by Sting and Bret Hart as the Scorpion Deathlock and Sharpshooter respectively. The hold begins with the opponent supine on the mat.
