Backbone (Status Quo Album)
''Backbone'' is the 33rd studio album by British rock band Status Quo. It was released on 6 September 2019 and debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart (and at top spot on the Album Sales Chart, which subtracts streaming activity from specific album purchases in all digital and physical formats). It was the band's 25th UK top ten album and their highest-charting album of original material since '' 1+9+8+2'' (1982). ''Backbone'' also entered the Swiss album charts at number two, and the German album charts at number six, giving the band their highest album chart position in the latter, despite a long history of enduring popularity. Frontman Francis Rossi stated in a 2022 interview with ''Classic Rock'' magazine that ''Backbone'' was likely to be Status Quo's final studio album. Status Quo (band)
Status Quo are a British rock band. The group originated in London and was founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of name and lineup changes, which included the introduction of John Coghlan (drummer), John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they played Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986). They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK – more than any other band – including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (their first charting song), "Caroline (Status Quo song), Caroline" (their first top 5 hit), and "Down Down" (their only No. 1 hit). Mastering is a form of audio post production which is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the Audio mixing (recorded music), final mix to a data storage device called a master recording, the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or Replication (optical media), replication). In recent years, digital masters have become usual, although analog masters—such as audio tapes—are still being used by the manufacturing industry, particularly by a few engineers who specialize in analog mastering. John David (musician)
John David Williams (born 19 January 1946 in Cardiff, Wales) is a Welsh bassist and songwriter known equally for his work with Dave Edmunds and for his songwriting. Biography He began his musical career playing drums in his father's dance band Avalon. By 1968 he was playing bass guitar and sang backing vocals in Edmunds' first major group, Love Sculpture, best remembered for their 1968 top ten hit single " Sabre Dance". At that time he used the name John Williams. After Love Sculpture split in 1970 he concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering, as well as collaborating with Edmunds on his number one single " I Hear You Knocking", playing bass, piano, and percussion. Andy Bown
Andrew Steven Bown (born 27 March 1946) is an English musician, who has specialised in keyboards and bass guitar. He is a member of the rock band Status Quo. Career Bown's first major band was The Herd, along with Peter Frampton. After The Herd dissolved he spent two years with Judas Jump who were the opening act of the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. He played eyboards at firstfor Frampton in the 1970s then switched to bass briefly when Rick Wills departed the Peter Frampton band in early 1975. Bown himself left the Frampton entourage less than a year later, just as Frampton was on the verge of achieving worldwide success. He went back to England where he first dabbled with a solo career (recording two solo albums for Bill Gaff's GM label, US Mercury), then resumed work with Status Quo whom he started playing keyboards for in 1973 as a session musician, including sessions with Jerry Lee Lewis on the London Sessions Album. John Edwards (musician)
John Victor "Rhino" Edwards (born 9 May 1953) is an English bass guitarist, playing in the rock group Status Quo (band), Status Quo. Career Born in Chiswick, London, Edwards learnt classical violin as a child and won a scholarship to the London College of Music at the age of eleven. He was educated at Chiswick School, Chiswick Grammar School and Stinsford School, Dorchester, Dorset, Dorchester. Around 1973–74, Edwards was to be found playing simultaneously in two pub bands in The White Bear in Hounslow (a venue renowned at that time as a music venue, where Rick Wakeman had been a regular player). The two bands were The Sunday Band (playing on that day of the week), playing covers of rock standards, and Rococo, with a regular Friday slot, and sharing the same singer as well as bass player. Bob Young (musician)
Robert Keith Young (born 16 May 1945) is an English musician and author, who became famous for being the unofficial fifth member of the rock band Status Quo. Collaborations with Status Quo From the mid-1960s onwards, Young has been working in the music business, starting as a crew member for Amen Corner, The Nice and also for The Herd. Based on this experience he was hired by the management of Status Quo, after they had their first hit with "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968. Since he spent a lot of time with the band while being on tour, he got involved with their music as well. As early as 1969 he started writing songs for the band. On Status Quo's single "The Price of Love" he could be heard on harmonica for the first time, making him an unofficial member of the group. Richie Malone
Richie Malone (born 18 March 1986) is an Irish musician who plays rhythm guitar for English rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo. Malone first played with the band in July 2016, when previous guitarist Rick Parfitt was no longer able to tour due to a heart attack. Parfitt died in December 2016, and Malone became his permanent replacement. Career Malone was the frontman of RAID, a rock band based in Dublin. He was a fan of Status Quo (band), Status Quo through his father, first seeing them live in concert in 1999. He was particularly a fan of rhythm guitarist Rick Parfitt, emulating his playing style from a young age, and travelling to England to have a replica of Parfitt's trademark white 1965 Fender Telecaster made. Rick Parfitt
Richard John Parfitt, (12 October 1948 24 December 2016) was an English musician, best known as a rhythm guitarist, singer and songwriter with rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo. Parfitt began his career in the early 1960s, playing in pubs and holiday camps. He joined Status Quo in 1967 when they were looking for an additional singer. He wrote songs for the band and remained with them for 49 years. He occasionally guested with other bands, and recorded an unreleased solo album in 1985. In 2016, Parfitt temporarily retired from touring with the band due to ill health, and died in December of that year. The Anniversary Waltz (Status Quo Song)
"The Anniversary Waltz" is the title of two medley singles released in 1990 by English rock band Status Quo. The medleys consist of hit songs from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. One of the songs performed, Dion's " The Wanderer" had previously been covered by Status Quo in 1984. "The Anniversary Waltz" was divided into two parts for release as a single. Part One was the bigger hit, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart, and was included on their 1990 compilation album '' Rocking All Over the Years''. The sleeves for all formats feature the legend 'It's Live Sonny' which was included (together with a small sketch of a rabbit) in answer to critics who had likened the Anniversary Waltz to previous releases by Jive Bunny.
