Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel ( – 27 January 1940) was a Soviet writer, journalist, playwright, and literary translator. He is best known as the author of ''Red Cavalry'' and ''Odessa Stories'', and has been acclaimed as "the greatest prose writer of Russian Jew, Russian Jewry". Babel was arrested by the NKVD on 15 May 1939 on fabricated charges of terrorism and espionage, and executed on 27 January 1940. Early years Isaac Babel was born in the Moldavanka section of Odessa in the Russian Empire, to Russian Jew, Jewish parents, Manus and Feyga Babel. Soon after his birth, the Babel family moved to the port city of Mykolaiv, Nikolaev. They later returned to live in a more fashionable part of Odessa in 1906. Babel used Moldavanka as the setting for ''The Odessa Tales, Odessa Stories'' and the play ''Sunset (play), Sunset''. Johann Baptist Babel
Johann Baptist Babel (25 June 1716 – 9 February 1799) was the preeminent sculptor of Baroque era Switzerland.Beyer: "die hervorragendste Bildhauerpersönlichkeit des schweizerischen Barock". Active mainly in Central Switzerland, he enjoyed an uncommonly long productive period that spanned the transitions from Late Baroque to Rococo and then to Neoclassicism. Life Babel was the fourth son of a wealthy court clerk in Pfronten-Ried near Füssen in the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg (now Bavaria, Germany). After training with local sculptors, probably his cousin Johann Peter Heel (1696–1767), Babel spent his journeyman years traveling in Austria and learning wood and stone sculpting techniques. He probably spent time in Bohemia and with Joseph Päbel (1683–1742), another distantly related sculptor, in St. Pölten. Louis Babel (23 June 1826 – 1 March 1912) was an Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Oblate priest who might be considered multi-faceted in his career. He was born in Veyrier, Switzerland and received his formal training in Europe before coming to Canada in 1851. He was ordained in Bytown upon his arrival by Bishop Joseph-Bruno Guigues. His first assignment was as a missionary among the Innu people, Montagnais (Innu) in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Saguenay region of Lower Canada. He moved from La Baie, Quebec, Grande-Baie to Les Escoumins, Quebec, Les Escoumins where he began working with Father Charles Arnaud. He and Arnaud would be together for almost 60 years. Ryan Guno Babel (; born 19 December 1986) is a Dutch former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), forward. Babel began his career at Ajax in 1997, working his way up through the youth team and into the senior squad. He played three seasons for the first team before he was transferred to Liverpool F.C., Liverpool in mid-2007, where under three successive managers he failed to secure a regular first team position. Babel was sold to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, 1899 Hoffenheim in January 2011, for a sum around half of that which Liverpool paid for him.
