Baba Yaga (album)
''Baba Yaga'' is the fourth studio album by Norwegian fiddler and multi-instrumentalist Annbjørg Lien, released on 1 November 1999 by Grappa Music (GMCD 4158). In a departure from her previous records—such as '' Prisme'' (1996) and '' Felefeber'' (1994)—, which feature more acoustic, traditional sets, ''Baba Yaga'' consists primarily of Lien's own compositions, arranged in a more "modern", futuristic style, and utilizing synthesizers, programming. and various digital effects effectively. The tracks tell their many stories against lush arrangements, with longtime collaborators Bjørn Ole Rasch (of Bukkene Bruse) and guitarist Roger Tallroth (of Swedish folk "super-group" Väsen). Annbjørg Lien
Annbjørg Lien (born 15 October 1971) is a Norway, Norwegian musician, playing the hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle), violin, and nyckelharpa. Career She first came to national prominence in 1986. Shortly afterwards got a recording deal with the Heilo label and released her first album on that label in 1988. She has received numerous awards, both in Norway and the Nordic countries, including the Gammleng Prize in classical folk music in 2004 and the Hilmar Prize in 2006. In her work, Lien often combines traditional Music of Norway, Norwegian music with jazz and rock music. She has traveled to Africa, Asia, Australia, Argentina, Bhutan, Greenland, Iceland, Sri Lanka, North America, and other parts of Europe, and worked with musicians from many countries. Loki
Loki is a Æsir, god in Norse mythology. He is the son of Fárbauti (a jötunn) and Laufey (mythology), Laufey (a goddess), and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr. Bouzouki
The bouzouki (, also ; ; alt. pl. ''bouzoukia'', , from Greek , from Turkish ) is a musical instrument popular in West Asia (Syria, Iraq), Europe and Balkans (Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey). Roger Tallroth (singer)
__NOTOC__ Karl Johan Roger Tallroth, born in 1958, is a Swedish folk musician and composer, best known as a founder member of the band Väsen. He was educated at the Sjövik Folk High School and the School of Music in Örebro University. Principally a guitarist, he also plays other stringed instruments such as the bouzouki, ukulele, mandola, mandolin, fiddle, viola, oud and double bass. He also works as an arranger, and teaches at both the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and in Örebro University. Terje Isungset (born 4 May 1964) is a Norwegian drummer. From his background in jazz and traditional Scandinavian music, he has designed musical instruments from non-traditional materials, including ice. Baba Yaga
Baba Yaga is a female character (or one of a trio of sisters of the same name) from Slavic folklore who has two contrasting roles. In some narratives, she is described as a repulsive or ferocious-looking old woman who fries and eats children, while in others she is depicted as a nice old woman who helps the hero.
