Baba Ayagiba
Baba Ayagiba was a Ghanaian politician in the first republic. He served as a member of parliament for the Bawku constituency from 1956 to 1966 when the Nkrumah government was overthrown. He contested for the Bawku seat with Adam Amandi of the Northern People's Party who had represented the electoral area in the Legislative Assembly from 1954 to 1956. Prior to entering parliament, Ayagiba was a public servant. He was a learner at the Agricultural Institute at Zuarungu. He qualified in 1950 and was appointed an Agricultural Assistant in the Ministry of Agriculture. He remained in this position until he entered parliament in July 1956. Adam Amandi
Adam Amandi (1918–2006) was an Educationist, Farmer, Environmentalist and Ghanaian politician. Gold Coast (British Colony)
The Gold Coast was a British Empire, British Crown colony on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa from 1821 until its independence in 1957 as Ghana. The term Gold Coast is also often used to describe all of the four separate jurisdictions that were under the administration of the Governor of the Gold Coast. The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a socialist political party in Ghana based on the ideas of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Nkrumah broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). Origins The Convention People's Party is descended from a line of political movements formed in the early half of the 20th century to spearhead the anti-colonial struggle in the Gold Coast. The movement that preceded it was the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) formed in August 1947 and led predominantly by members of the professional and business classes. Nkrumah Government
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was the first Prime Minister of Ghana, Prime Minister and first President of Ghana. Nkrumah had run governments under the supervision of the British government through Charles Arden-Clarke, the Governor-General. His first government under colonial rule started from 21 March 1952 until independence. His first independent government took office on 6 March 1957. From 1 July 1960, Ghana became a republic and Nkrumah became the first president of Ghana. Northern People's Party
The Northern People's Party (NPP) was a political party in the Gold Coast (British colony), Gold Coast which aimed to protect the interests of those in the Northern Region (Ghana), Northern region of Ghana. The NPP's leader was Simon Diedong Dombo, S. D. Dombo, the traditional chief of Duori in the Upper Region. Formed in April 1954, the party contested the Gold Coast legislative election, 1954, 1954 election and the Gold Coast legislative election, 1956, 1956 election.
