Ba Phnum District
Ba Phnum (, ), sometime spelled as Ba Phnom, is a district located in Prey Veng Province, in south eastern Cambodia. The hills surrounding the town are the highest elevation points in Prey Veng province. In Khmer, ''Ba'' means "ancestor" and ''Phnum'' means "hill." When combined, the town is known as "Hill of the Ancestors." Ba Phnum is a relatively remote location and has been attractive to ascenti monks (loak dhutang) for centuries. It has also been an occasional center from which millennial movements have radiated throughout Khmer history. Ba Phnum is a site of interest for Cambodian historians. According to some accounts, the area is the birthplace of the Khmer people. An inscription on Wat Jaan, the pre-Angkorian temple at the base of the mountain (ca. 629 AD), associates Ba Phnum with Shiva and refers to it as "the holy mountain." Provinces Of Cambodia
Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces (, ). The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an "autonomous municipality" (, ; lit. 'capital'), equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces. Phnom Penh has both the highest population and the highest population density of all provinces, but is the second smallest in land area. The largest province by area is Mondulkiri and the smallest is Kep which is also the least populated province. Mondulkiri has the lowest population density. Each province is administered by a governor, who is nominated by the Ministry of Interior, subject to approval by the Prime Minister. Provinces are divided into districts (, ''srŏk''). Vyadhapura (, Sanskrit: व्याधपूर ''Vyādhapūra'') was an ancient city of the Funan civilization, likely in what is now Ba Phnum District in the province of Prey Veng, Cambodia. History Vyadhapura, the city of the hunter king, named in honour of Hun P'an-huang. Funan
Funan (; , ; , Chữ Hán: ; ) was the name given by Chinese cartographers, geographers and writers to an ancient Khmer-Mon Indianized state—or, rather a loose network of states ''( Mandala)''—located in Mainland Southeast Asia covering parts of present-day Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam that existed from the first to sixth century CE. The name is found in Chinese historical texts describing the kingdom, and the most extensive descriptions a name the people of Funan gave to their polity. Some scholars argued that ancient Chinese scholars has found the records from Yuán Shǐ, the history records of Yuan Dynasty.
