BVV Barendrecht
Barendrechtse Voetbalvereniging Barendrecht, commonly known as BVV Barendrecht, is a football club from Barendrecht, Netherlands. The club was founded on 12 February 1926 and plays its matches at Sportpark de Bongerd. With more than 2,000 members, Barendrecht is one of the largest amateur clubs of the Netherlands in membership. History 1960s–1970s: Vierde, Derde, and Tweede Klasse From 1961 to 1977, Barendrecht played mostly in the Derde Klasse. The first two seasons were in the Vierde Klasse and the last two in the Tweede Klasse. In 1969–70, too, BVV played in the Tweede Klasse. 1980s–2000s: Eerste Klasse and Hoofdklasse From 1977 to 1996, Barendrecht played in the Eerste Klasse, with the exception of one year back in Tweede Klasse. The Eerste Klasse () started as the 1st tier of football in the Netherlands and is now the 6th tier. The league is divided into ten divisions. These divisions correspond to the six districts of the Royal Dutch Football Association: each district is organised geographically. Each division consists of 14 teams. The Vierde Divisie (; "Fourth Division"), formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league was divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This was a result of the traditional pillarisation (), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. Lorenzo Soares Fonseca (born 17 November 1998) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Barendrecht. Born in the Netherlands, Fonseca represents the Cape Verde national football team. Leendert van Steensel (born 20 April 1984) is a Dutch football coach and former professional player who manages BVV Barendrecht. Van Steensel primarily played as a centre back for Utrecht, Carl Zeiss Jena, Excelsior and Capelle. Playing career Born in Rotterdam, Van Steensel was three years old when his family moved from Oud-Beijerland to Moordrecht. There, he became a member of VV Moordrecht the age of six. Seven years later, his parents moved to Waddinxveen, and Van Steensel began playing for the local club, Be Fair. At age 15, he was scouted by FC Utrecht, and joined the youth academy of the club. On 20 November 2003, he made his professional debut for FC Utrecht. On 5 January 2007, Utrecht announced that he would be loaned out to German club Carl Zeiss Jena for the remained of the season.
