BT-Füchse Handballclub Bruck-Trofaiach normally just called BT-Füchse is an Austrian handball club from Bruck an der Mur and Trofaiach, Austria. History The club was founded in 2020 as a fusion between HC Bruck and ATV Trofaiach. The goal was to create a place for talent development in Obersteiermark. The women's team started in the top Austrian division. The men's team reached the top division after a year, when they were promoted in the 2020-2021 season by winning the HLA Challenge League. The Handball Liga Austria (HLA) is the professional handball league of Austria. Competition format The current format was introduced in the 2021-2022 season. The competition has 12 teams. The season begins with a regular season where each team plays each other twice, home and away. The table is then separated into two parts, a championship group and a relegation group. The top eight teams meet in quarterfinals, followed by semi- and lastly a final. The winner is declared Austrian champion. The bottom four meets in relegation playoff to see who gets relegated to the HLA Challenger League. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. Bruck an der Mur () is a city of some 15,970 people located in the district Bruck-Mürzzuschlag, in the Austrian state of Styria. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Mur and Mürz. Its manufacturing includes metal products and paper. Bruck is located on the Graz to Vienna main line, and is an important regional rail junction.
