BRS Carriage
The S type carriages are a corridor-type passenger carriage used on the railways of Victoria, Australia. The first carriages were constructed by the Victorian Railways in 1937 for use on the ''Spirit of Progress'', with additional carriages built for other trains until the mid-1950s. Introduced by Victorian Railways Chairman of Commissioners Harold Clapp for the ''Spirit of Progress'' service between Melbourne and Albury, the carriages lasted through many decades of regular service, with more than one operator. Two major variants of the S-type carriage were constructed: AS first-class cars with 3+3 seating in each compartment, and BS second-class cars with 4+4 seating. A handful of other cars were constructed for various specialist purposes. Steamrail Victoria
Steamrail Victoria is a not-for-profit volunteer group established in 1965 to restore and operate historic locomotives and rolling stock used on the Rail transport in Victoria, railways in Victoria, Australia. The main depot of the group is at the Newport Workshops ('West Block') in suburban Melbourne. In addition to operating railfan special trains and charters for private groups, the group also operates special steam trains in the Melbourne suburban area. Steamrail regularly tours the state, including participation in annual events such as the Ballarat Heritage Weekend (steam locomotive Y112 is used to shuttle between Ballarat and Sulky Gully/Lal Lal). Steamrail Victoria also leases diesel locomotives to freight operators such as Southern Shorthaul Railroad, Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) & Qube Logistics as required. The New Deal for Country Passengers was a Public transport timetable, timetable introduced on 4 October 1981 in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia which revolutionised the provision of Rail transport in Victoria, country passenger railway services in that state. Thirty-five little-used passenger stations were closed, rolling stock utilisation was improved, and new rolling stock introduced. The timetable and associated service changes resulted in an average patronage growth of 8.7% per year, from 3 million in 1981 to 5.6 million passengers in 1990/91. Political background The Victorian Railways had been stuck in something of a "time warp" for a number of decades. Abraham Lincoln (train)
The ''Abraham Lincoln'' was a List of named passenger trains, named passenger train operated by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from 1935 into the 1960s. The ''Abe Lincoln'' ran between Chicago and St. Louis on the B&O's subsidiary Alton Railroad. The train later passed to the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad, and then finally to Amtrak, which retained the name until 1978. Service between Chicago and St. Louis is now known by the umbrella term ''Lincoln Service''. This train was the first streamlined passenger service to travel the 284 miles between Chicago and St. Louis, with Joliet, Bloomington-Normal, Springfield and Alton in between. Royal Blue (train)
The ''Royal Blue'' was the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O)'s flagship passenger train between New York City and Washington, D.C., in the United States, beginning in 1890. The Baltimore-based B&O also used the name between 1890 and 1917 for its improved passenger service between New York and Washington, collectively dubbed the ''Royal Blue Line''. Using variants such as the ''Royal Limited'' and ''Royal Special'' for individual ''Royal Blue'' trains, the B&O operated the service in partnership with the Reading Company, Reading Railroad and the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Baltimore And Ohio Railroad
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the oldest railroads in North America, oldest railroad in the United States and the first steam engine, steam-operated common carrier. Construction of the line began in 1828, and it operated as B&O from 1830 until 1987, when it was merged into the Chessie System. Its lines are today controlled by CSX Transportation. N Type Carriage
The N type carriages are an intercity Passenger car (rail), passenger carriage used on the Rail transport in Victoria, railways of Victoria, Australia. They were introduced between 1981 and 1984 as part of the 'New Deal (railway), New Deal' reforms of country passenger rail services. Today they are seen on V/Line long distance InterCity services to Swan Hill. The carriage sets have both first class 2+2 seating, and 2+3 economy seating. The Kerang train accident occurred on 5 June 2007 at about 13:40 AEST in the Australian state of Victoria, approximately north of the town of Kerang in the state's northwest, and north-northwest of the city of Melbourne.
