BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal
BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal is an international rally-raid competition held in Portugal. It is organized by Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) and the race is the third leg of the FIA FIM World Rally-Raid Championship 2024 (W2RC) and is a points scoring event. The inaugural edition was held from 2 to 7 April 2024. It is held in Portugal and Spain and the only European race in the W2RC calendar. Some of the World's top drivers and riders take part in the series. Rally route The route includes five stages, known as SS or Selective Sections covering a distance of about 1000km. The World Rally-Raid Championship (officially abbreviated as W2RC) is a rally raid series organised by the Amaury Sport Organization and co-sanctioned by the FIA and FIM. The championship's seasons culminate with world championship titles in both automobile and motorcycle categories. Beginning in 2022, the series replaced both the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies and FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship as the top echelon of the sport of rally raid. The ASO will serve as series promotor for a period of five years. History The combined World Championship series was conceived as a result of efforts by the ASO, FIA and FIM to harmonize regulations. FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship
The FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship was the premier championship of Rally raid racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), from 1999 to 2021 (from 1999 and 2002 as World Cup). Asides the main championship, there were World Cups for the following categories: Quads, Women, Junior, and over 450 cc. The Cross-Country Rallies World Championship was contested for the first time in 1999. It was organized by FIM with the aim joining in a unique calendar the numerous cross-country rallies disputed all over the world in a totally uncoordinated way. The trophy awarded in early seasons was a simple "world cup" , but the large participation of drivers since the first edition pushed the FIM to set up a few years later a real "world championship".
