Club Balonmano Neptuno/Atlético de Madrid was a Spanish professional Team handball, handball team based in Madrid, Spain. Part of the Atlético Madrid sports organization. They played two seasons in the Liga ASOBAL and their home court was the Palacio Vistalegre. History Atlético Madrid BM, Balonmano Atlético de Madrid was created in the early 1950s, it won 11 Liga ASOBAL, Spanish Leagues and 10 Spanish Cups between 1952 and 1987, and reached the final of the 1984–85 EHF Champions League, European Cup and the 1986–87 EHF Cup; they lost both to, respectively, RK Metaloplastika, Metaloplastika Sabac and Granitas Kaunas. Jesús Gil disbanded the team in 1992, but it still competed as Atlético de Madrid Alcobendas for two more seasons under the management of some stockholders before finally disappearing in 1994. The Liga ASOBAL 2012–13 was the 23rd season since its establishment. Barcelona Intersport was the defending champions. The campaign began on Friday, 7 September 2012. The last matchday was played on Saturday, 25 May 2013. A total of 16 teams contested the league, 14 of which had already contested in the 2011–12 season, and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2011–12. Barcelona Borges won their third title in a row gathering twelve ASOBAL titles. The season was marked by the shutdown of BM Atlético Madrid at end of season due to financial constraints. Julen Aguinagalde Akizu (born 8 December 1982 in Irun, Spain) is a Basques, Basque Spanish retired handballer who played as a pivot for the Spain men's national handball team, Spanish national team. Career Aguinagalde started playing handball in his hometown club Bidasoa Irún. In 1999, he debuted for the senior team in the top division, Liga ASOBAL. José Javier Hombrados
José Javier Hombrados (born 7 April 1972) is a Spanish former handball player for Spain national team. He has the record for most appearances in the Spanish top division, Liga ASOBAL and the only player with more than 700 appeances. He is the only goalkeeper to have won the EHF Champions League with three different clubs. Career Hombrados began playing handball at BM Safa in Barcelona. His first league game was for Atlético Madrid. In 1991, he reached the final of the Cope del Rey. In 1993, he joined Teka. The Men's Super Globe is a handball competition contested between the champion clubs from continental confederations. On 7 December 2018, the IHF moved the Super Globe to Saudi Arabia for four years, until 2022. In May 2024, the IHF moved the Super Globe to Egypt, until 2026.
