BMW 8 Series (G14)
The second-generation of the BMW 8 Series consists of the BMW G14 (convertible version), BMW G15 (two-door coupe version) grand tourers and BMW G16 (four-door "Gran Coupe" sedan version) executive cars ( E). The G14/G15/G16 generation has been in production since 2018, and is often collectively referred to as the G15. It is the successor to the BMW 6 Series (F06/F12/F13) range and marks the return of the BMW 8 Series nameplate after nearly two decades, which was previously produced as the E31 until its discontinuation in 1999. The G15 is powered by turbocharged six-cylinder petrol, six-cylinder diesel, and V8 petrol engines, all mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. While the initial release of models all included all-wheel drive, a rear-wheel drive version of the base 840i and 840d was later made available for sale. The BMW Group Plant Dingolfing is a network of BMW Factory, plants in Dingolfing, Dingolfing-Landau, Lower Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, Germany with a total area of over 300 hectares. Plant Dingolfing is the BMW Group’s largest European production site. History The origins of the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing go back to the former Glas (company), Hans Glas GmbH, which had been based in Dingolfing since 1905. In 1967 BMW took over Hans Glas, in 1968 the production of chassis parts and motorcycle parts for BMWs began, production of the Goggomobil continued until 1969. The Geneva International Motor Show was an annual auto show held in March in the Swiss city of Geneva. The show was hosted at the Palexpo, a convention centre located next to the Geneva Cointrin International Airport. The Salon was organised by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, and was considered an important major international auto show. First held in 1905, the Salon hosted almost all major internal combustion engined models in the history of the automobile, along with benzene- and steam-powered cars from the beginning of the century. The 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans () was an 24-hour automobile endurance race for Le Mans Prototype and Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance cars entered by teams of three drivers each held from 16 to 17 June 2018 at the Circuit de la Sarthe, close to Le Mans, France. IDrive
iDrive is an in-car communications and entertainment system, used to control most secondary vehicle systems in late-model BMW cars. It was launched in 2001, first appearing in the E65 7 Series. The system unifies an array of functions under a single control architecture consisting of an LCD panel mounted on the dashboard and a control knob mounted on the center console. iDrive introduced the first multiplexed MOST Bus/ Byteflight optical fiber data busses with a very high bit rate in a production vehicle. Concorso D'Eleganza Villa D'Este
is a Concours d'Elegance event in Italy for classic and vintage cars. It takes place annually near the Villa d'Este hotel in Cernobbio, on the western shore of Lake Como in northern Italy. Since 2011, the event has taken place in the second half of May. BMW Group has organised the event, jointly with the Villa d'Este hotel, since 2009. Visitors can admire about fifty cars, all built between the 1920s and the 1970s, organized in different categories. Car makers also take advantage of the event to showcase some of their upcoming models. For example, a working Aston Martin One-77 was officially unveiled to the press during the 2009 event. BMW M8
The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. BMW CLAR Platform
The Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform is a car platform developed by BMW. It is a modular platform that incorporates steel, aluminium, and optional carbon fibre. It is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive setups and debuted in the G11 7 Series in 2015. It is designed to accommodate a pure ICE drivetrain, has an optional 48-volt electrical system in a mild-hybrid configuration, but also supports plug-in hybrid and battery electric drivetrains.
