BC SKA Alma-Ata
BC SKA Alma-Ata (russian: баскетбольный клуб СКА Алма-Ата) was a former Soviet basketball club from the city of Alma-Ata. In 2013 the club has merged into BC Almaty to serve as the reserve squad in the second division Higher league under the name Almaty Legion KazNU (russian: Алматинский Легион КазНУ) History In 1978 in Alma-Ata (now Almaty) on the basis of the multi-sport society "SKA" (спортивный клуб Армии) created the eponymous basketball club. The team played in the lower leagues, up to 1985, when the team won the first league championship and promoted to the USSR Premier Basketball League. In the seasons 1988-89 and 1989-90 SKA held the final 4 of the Premier League. In the Open CIS Cup of 1991-92 the team began as the SKA, and in 1992 finish the league season already as "Zhulduz" and won the "silver" medal, against the champions of Spartak Leningrad. Almaty (; kk, Алматы; ), formerly known as Alma-Ata ( kk, Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of about 2 million. VTB United League
VTB United League (russian: Единая Лига ВТБ) is an international professional men's club basketball league that was founded in 2008. It is made up of mostly Russian clubs, along with one each from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Since 2013, it is the first tier of Russian professional club basketball. Therefore, the highest placed Russian team in the league is also named Russian national champions. The league is sponsored by Russian state-owned VTB Bank. In 2008 CSKA Moscow won VTB United League Promo-Cup, but this competition does not count as official VTB title. The current champions are Zenit Saint Petersburg, who secured their 1st ever title after defeating former champions CSKA Moscow 4–3 in the 2022 Finals. Eurobasket
EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in 1935. The former Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. The current defending champion is Spain, who won the 2022 title. Multi-sport
A multi-sport event is an organized sporting event, often held over multiple days, featuring competition in many different sports among organized teams of athletes from (mostly) nation-states. USSR Premier Basketball League
The USSR Premier Basketball League, or Soviet Union Premier Basketball League (also called Supreme League), was the first-tier men's professional basketball league in the former Soviet Union. The league existed from 1923 to 1991, as the top professional basketball league of the Soviet Union, and from 1991 to 1992, as the top professional basketball league of the CIS. In the years 1924, 1928, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1956, 1959, 1963, and 1967, the league was contested by regional teams, rather than individual sports clubs. BC Spartak Saint Petersburg is a Russian professional basketball team that is based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During the 2016–17 season, the club was named BC Kondrashin Belov (BCKB), after its former player Alexander Belov and its former head coach Vladimir Kondrashin. History The club was originally established on September 8, 1935, as BC Spartak Leningrad. The club then became known as BC Spartak Saint Petersburg in 1991.
