BC Chernomorets
BC Chernomorets, also known as Chernomorets Burgas, is a Bulgarian professional basketball club based in Burgas. The team plays in the NBL, the highest level of national basketball. The club has won three Bulgarian Cups, in 1965, 1975 and 2024. History Basketball is a sport with a long tradition in Burgas. For 64 years there has been a men's professional basketball team. National Basketball League (Bulgaria)
The National Basketball League (NBL) (in Bulgarian: Националната баскетболна лига) is the highest-level professional basketball league in Bulgaria. The current league was founded in 2008, though the first-tier level existed since 1942 and was previously called the Bulgarian A Division. The games in the NBL are played under rules of basketball, FIBA rules. The most successful team in NBL history is PBC Academic, which has won 26 national titles. Arena Burgas
Arena Burgas () is a multifunctional indoor arena located in Burgas, Bulgaria. The arena opened on May 18, 2023, following over five years of delays. It has a seating capacity of 4,100 for sports events, which is expandable up to 6,100, and up to 15,000 for concerts. The arena is home to BC Chernomorets, who play in the NBL, the top flight of Bulgarian basketball. History Construction for the arena took over eight years. After breaking ground in late 2014 with a planned budget of 38 million Bulgarian lev and a completion date of January 2017, the project was met with multiple delays and funding issues, with the final official budget figure ballooning to 64 million. In 2022, under then-Minister of Youth and Sports Radostin Vassilev, a proposal was made to grant an additional 15 million lev in funding to finish the arena, however this attempt to secure additional funding was unsuccessful. Bulgarian Basketball Cup
The Bulgarian Basketball Cup is an annual cup competition, organized by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation since 1951. The cup was not held in 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1961. BC CSKA Sofia is the all-time record holder with 17 titles. Format Since 2009, except from 2017 to 2019, the Final Eight format has been used and from 2010 only teams from the first tier participate in it. The eight teams play a play-off at one venue, over four days, eventually producing a winner. From 2017 to 2019, the quarterfinals and semifinals are played in a double-legged format, while the final was played in one game on a neutral venue. The top six teams, from NBL, have an automatic bye to quarterfinals, while the other three and five teams from A Group League (second tier) play preliminary rounds for a place in the quarterfinals. 2024 Bulgarian Basketball Cup
The 2024 Bulgarian Basketball Cup was the 70th edition of the annual cup tournament in Bulgaria. It is managed by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation and was held in Burgas, Arena Burgas. The competition starts on 15 March 2024 with the quarterfinals, and ends with the Final on 17 March 2024.
